American movies with light (or no) plot

It's more common in European film, but I thought it would be good to list or highlight some good American movies that are light on plot...

This is partly inspired by the discussions we had on Dunkirk and it's very minimal plot...

What other movies, which have light plots do you like?

I'll get the ball rolling, how about Before Sunrise?

Prometheus.

Funny, this reminds me of an older Star Trek film, one with the original cast. I was always a big trekker and I remember going to see "The Search for Spock". Mad magazine did a spoof on the film entitled, "The Search for Plot."

I had to admit, there really was no plot. The crew just embarked on a mission to recover Spock's body.

I liked the sympathetic background reacting to Spock's mood swings and Christopher Lloyd's part.

Beyond that though I kind of get you with Star Trek 3 not being top notch but I think of it as the middle film of a trilogy (Which softens it a little).

reply

I did like the movie and was relieved to see Spock's return.

Christopher Lloyd really chewed up the scenery though. He was the high point of the movie for me.

I just had to agree with Mad magazine that the film was light on plot.

reply

It certainly was light on plot but if you take it as a middle act between The Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home it really is a nice touch with deflating the emotion of Wrath and getting the audience ready for the light relief of Voyage.

By itself it stands out as an oddity but with the rest to cushion it I think it is very enjoyable.

Dazed and Confused (1993)
A bunch of US high school kids in the mid 70's are about to throw their last big party out by the water tower in the woods...looking to get high, get laid...anything goes
I cant explain if its the great cars, cute girls or awesome soundtrack but i simply cant turn this off whenever i come across it
Reminds me of my youth...though i was about 10 or so years behind this
Great plotless movie!

All right all right all right...

Dude, Where's My Car?

Dazed and Confused was great... Linklater also directed Before Sunrise... I guess he likes to keep the plot thin, or get rid of it altogether...
