Do You Remember Life before the Internet?

Sometimes I wonder what am I doing right now if there were no Internet.

Sure, I remember life before the Internet. I grew up at a time when the Internet hadn't come into existence--the 1950's and the 1960's. Lots more time was spent playing outside in the good weather, and we played until it got dark outside.

There was much more face to face communication, and, when I needed help with a homework assignment, my parents and even my younger sister were there to help me. (I didn't get the best grades in school, but still...)

I doubt that many do today. Phones are even in the classroom!

I also grew up in the 50's and 60's when all of these devices were things we only saw in sci fi movies or on The Jetsons. lol! Even those look a bit outdated by today's standards...

If it was all taken away tomorrow, I could adjust. I wonder if the people who have grown up with the internet and cell phones could even handle it.

Yeah, didn't get internet until 2000 or 2001. It was more difficult to look up information , but it was something you were used too. In the few years before the internet I looked up A LOT of info in a small encyclopedia from the 70s that I borrowed from my grandmother and a cd-rom of Encyclopedia Brittanica.

I remember my workplace had internet access around 97 - I thought it would never amount to anything.

Haha, boy, were you wrong! And did you ever tell anyone? I can imagine people still badgering you over that!XD

Of course... I was born in 1982.. I remember activities developing organically. We DID things, we invented things to do, we played sports, played musical instruments, went for long walks, swam, we did a lot...

No distractions like the phone, etc., led to something getting done.

I definitely remember it. It had its pros and cons.

Communication was probably the biggest con. It was so difficult to stay on the phone with someone, or to keep in touch via phone or physical mail, so it made friendships either more or less precious.

And there was a lot more mystery in the world because people not only did not have the ease of communication via the internet, but people didn't carry a camera with them everywhere, so they couldn't catch rare or instant moments and post them online. Which is probably why vanity and physical insecurity were much lower overall. But also, not as many people can get away with crime as they used to.

I think the things I miss most, I guess, about pre-internet days, are the patience that people used to have. We used to wait for things. We didn't used to binge tv shows; we waited per week for tv episodes and we didn't lose our minds because of it. And also the amount of information I used to be able to remember on command. Sure, we have so much more info available to us, but we don't keep in as much because we don't have to. Not a pro or a con, necessarily. Just something I miss.

The negative side is that people are so concerned with capturing the moment on their phones, that they miss it as it's happening. A perfect case in point:

The kid is so programmed to "get the selfie" that he misses 90% of a rare and awesome sight.

Yeah I'm in agreement with you on that. But I won't say it's all cons or all pros though.
