Songs you always associate with a film/show.

We all know music is integral to film and television. Also sound is linked to bringing up memories. So there are those songs that are used in such a way in a scene, that always make me think of the movie/show whenever I listen to them.

The most obvious maybe is Stuck In The Middle With You by Stealers Wheel (Reservoir Dogs). With a scene like that how can I not link it with the movie, I mean...

CeCe Peniston - Finally (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert). I fucking love this movie! I also love the scene it was used in: the costumes, the choreography, the faces! everything about it is just great. Also, Terence Stamp can't dance for shit, and that makes it ever greater in my view.

Stevie Wonder - Superstition (The Thing). Starts funny, turns scary. Also, foreshadowing and such. Only song in The Thing and aptly used.

Sailing - Rod Stewart (Men Behaving Badly). Because that scene is hilarious, and the fact they are rowing makes it even better.

Probably others as well that I can't think of right now.

What songs *you* MovieChat people always associate with movies/shows? Or am I just weird?

reply

Too many to list! We have the radio on all day at work. Sometimes, if we are bored, we play this game.
Listen to the song and name a movie or a TV show you associate with that song.
I prefer to hear the song and then give the film or show.

reply

Oh, that sounds like a great game!

reply

Hi, Mina! It is a fun game when we get bored. We also find out about movies we weren't aware of. All good!

reply

I agree with Stealers Wheel. Also Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon (the original by Neil Diamond) and Pulp Fiction. I agree with Dazed that many of the songs Tarantino used keep that association with his movies.

Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Öyster Cult and Scream.

The Entertainer (Scott Joplin) and The Sting.

I know there's more, I just have a hard time thinking of any.

reply

I was going to say Don't Fear the Reaper reminds me of "Halloween."

reply

I would probably say that as well if I hadn't seen Scream countless of times before Halloween.

reply

I always associated "Reaper" with The Stand.

reply

I forgot about that!!

reply

Yes, totally associate Don't Fear the Reaper with the stand. I can still picture that rolling shot as it was showing the destruction and playing that song. Good one to remind me of, thanks. :)

reply

Hi Daisy. I agree with you and Texas_Jack . The Stand and "Reaper" go hand and hand.

reply

Raindrops Keep Fallin on my Head-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

reply

I forgot about Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon and Pulp Fiction. Another Tarantino association!

reply

In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins - Miami Vice

reply

Smuggler's Blues, which even had Glenn Frey co-starring in one of the best episodes !

reply

Oh my god, yes! I always want to roll down the window and put on sunglasses Crockett-style when I hear that song on the radio!

reply

Brothers In Arms- Dire Straits.
Out Where the Buses Don't Run

reply

The first one that came to mind was "In Your Eyes" during "Say Anything..."

reply

More recently I think of This Is Us when I hear Can't Find My Way Home by Blind Faith.

I could play this game all day...

reply

good song!

reply

With the boombox, right? Great one!

reply

Yes! Lloyd Dobler 💞

My Heart Will Go On performed by Celine Dion always reminds me of the movie Titanic.

It's not that bad... still better than Let It Go.

reply

I remember a dreaded 8 hour bus ride, where the driver decided to delight us with this beautiful piece of music for the entire ride, almost on a loop. I still get flashbacks.

Forget waterboarding, this is what the Americans should be using to enhancedly interrogate terrorists!

reply

[deleted]

Now, Dazed, you still want them to be able to speak.

I just don't understand how anyone could call those high notes singing. Is Mariah secretly a banshee?

reply

I can't handle anything Mariah Carey, Celine Dion or Whitney Houston!

reply

I wonder why that is?

BTW everyone knows that song is called Titanic. lol

reply

That's the theme song of the movie, though. Do those count?

reply

Eye of the Tiger- Rocky 3

Don't You Forget About Me- Breakfast Club

Puttin on the Ritz- Young Frankenstein

reply

Another great selection. Putting on the Ritz especially. What a great scene that is.

[deleted]

Yes.

I almost said Singing In the Rain from A Clockwork Orange.
I don't think the song was actually in the movie though, just Alex singing it as he let off a little steam on that couple.

reply

[deleted]

I almost said that one as well! Singing in the Rain is quite memorable from both movies.

reply

Where Is My Mind-Fight Club

reply

Well done
All great picks!

reply

Don't You Forget about Me for the Breakfast Club I totally agree.
Always makes me think of Judd Nelson (esp) at the end. Love that song still!

reply

[deleted]

Oh, I have one from Bridget Jones as well. It's All By Myself. Celine Dion strikes again!
