Which decade had the best films?

Based on your own personal opinion and preferences - which decade would you say had the best films?

or even more specifically - which year had the best films?

I personally love movies from the 80s. All very feel-good films with originality.
I don't think there's any specific year i could pick.

I'd say the 70s. There was a willingness to take risks that we haven't seen before or since.

50s the goat

I just finished compiling a list of my 100 favorite films (something I'll probably post either today or tomorrow),
and according to my list, the 1980s was the winner.

Breaking down my list by decades ...
1930s - two
1940s - three
1950s - ten
1960s - seventeen
1970s - twelve
1980s - twenty four
1990s - seventeen
2000s - eight
2010s - six
2020s - one
As far as which year in the 1980s was best, 1983 had five films on my list, while 1984 and 1989 had four films each.
Oh yeah, it should be noted that I am 72 years old, thus my list might tend to skew to older films.

Based off of the films I like, in order it would be 70s, 80s, 60s and then 90s.

The highest rankings I give probably come from the 60s but if I could only watch films from one decade it would be the 70s.

reply

I've done this before with horror movies. The 80s had the greatest quantity of movies I enjoy watching, the 60s had the best movies whilst the 70s were a happy medium, slightly better quality than the 80s and numerically greater than the 60s.

For movies in general the 90s were pretty great but I feel like the 70s is best overall.

reply

1970s - American Movies
1960s - All Others

80s has most of my favourite films and a lot of great movies in general.
