Years ago I drove a taxi on the graveyard shift. I always looked forward to Sunday night because it was designated as "Jazz Night" on the local radio station. Now there's some great cruising music!

You just opened the floodgates of memory for me dewey, with your reference to The James Gang and specifically, Funk #49.

I was a drummer in a rock band at that time, so naturally, a cut as catchy and rhythmic as Funk#49 would get my attention.

Both Buddy Rich and Ginger Baker were idols.

In my days as a rock drummer, the test was being able to play Wipe Out by the Surfaris. Later, it was the drum solo in Iron Butterfly's In-A- Gadda-Da-Vida. Then, it was the mesmerizing solo by Michael Shrieve during Santana's Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock.

I mastered the first two and got a major portion of the third, so I guess I was a composite of those styles.

Interesting coincidence because my first instrument of choice in junior high school was the saxophone. Maybe you noticed earlier in this thread where I mentioned cruising to jazz in my taxi ?
