Come on, tv shows today are better than ever. It's the golden age of tv shows.
shareMaybe the golden age of the internet shows but not the golden age of TV.
shareWe've become inundated with too many stupid reality shows.
share"We've become inundated with too many stupid reality shows."
YES!!!!!
They make reality shows because ratings are a fraction of what they used to be. Many viewers have cut cable and use pirate sites to watch their shows. When you make a reality show all you need is a host, a good idea and a bunch of attention whores who will basically work for a minimal stipend. When the baby boomers die, there will be no one left to pay for cable programs and we'll probably end up watching youtube channels.
shareI'm not surprised. I've been a disgruntled cable customer for some time now because of their monopolizing and outrageous price-gouging; been looking at alternatives.
Btw, what is an " attention whore ? " I've never encountered that expression before.
Someone who thrives on attention... maybe posts a lot of selfies on social media. Perhaps even a narcissistic personality. Takes a certain type to want to expose yourself on national television.
shareI get it ! I've actually dealt with many such personalities and tend to conflict with them.
I think social media actually promotes that type of behavior.
I have to agree. TV shows (although NOT network) have improved amazingly over the past 10 or fewer years: the writing, character development, and production values are SO much better than they ever were. It's almost like night and day.
When I think of shows from the 70s and 80s, I can barely think of any that compare. Perhaps none. Most were actually BAD. Columbo was good, as was Night Gallery, but neither were great.
MacGyver and Hardcastle and McCormick
