One incident that slightly soured the atmosphere on set occurred during the filming of the climactic courtroom scene

Jack Nicholson's character lunges at Cruise and gets restrained by two marine guards.

While being made up between takes a real marine who was cast as one of the guards joked "I don't want to be prettier than tom"

Overhearing the remark cruise lost his temper and they had the following exchange ..

"What do you mean by that???"
" i don't want to be a pretty boy like you"
"Yeah then you'd have to get a real job"

get a real job tom told the $17,000 a year marine

cruise received $12.5M for a few good men

If it really happened, the marine was making fun of him, sounds like he was being a dick and trying to provoke him. I know most military men are honorable but there are some jerks and bullies too, just like cops. I've heard that he's actually a nice guy in real life and treats people on his movie sets with respect, he's even saved some lives. He gets a lot of bad press because of the Scientology stuff but there are rumors that he would like to leave but can't because they know things about his private life that would ruin his career and reputation.

I wasn't there, but it sounds like TC couldn't take a joke. I think it was a pretty funny one, and would have taken it happily. It's not like it's an insult to be called pretty.
