I noticed that you already included brand new movies, added to the base after the shutdown. Is this automatic generated that moviechat gets the imdb updates or do you have to do it manually?

After the archive update - are the new threads and posts still visible in correct date order? (I mean the threads created only on moviechat after shutdown) Or overwritten ?

I can only speak for myself, but I read old threads and don't respond to them when I'm looking for an explanation of a plot point or opinions in general about more obscure movies. Some of the old threads for bad movies are hilarious too.

The point is to save interesting, relevant or funny discussions that may go back many years. Many of us checked out the IMDb message boards after seeing a movie or tv show (new and old) to see what other people had to say about it. It's interesting and entertaining to see other people's opinions and perhaps get some answers to your questions. You don't have to start a new thread hoping someday someone might reply. Most of the time on IMDb I was actually a lurker instead of an active poster.

Yes, it's a shame to have many irrelevant threads like you mentioned, but there's no way for jim to go through all the boards and delete those threads.

Because when its easy to scrape someone else's site for all the data (without doing the work yourself) then add it to your own site then why not - hey Jim doesn't care about screwing other people to placate the congregation - all hail Jim, btw how is the Netflix lawsuit going?

We as the sites' participated can "delete" them ourselves, so to speak. For every comment or comment thread that you find irrelevant, such as the kind you mentioned, all you have to do is click on the [-] symbol next to the posters name and it will close/hide that thread. There doesn't seem to be a way to do it with the OP's original post, but you can do it to comments and threads within the post. It helps to keep things more uncluttered and tidy. Hopefully though, Jim will eventually put that symbol next to an OP's original post so that you can hide the entire post all in one shot. Hope this helps!!

Personally I feel only obvious troll posts should be deleted and then not necessarily entire threads, though posts referring only to deleted posts should probably be removed along with them. All threads should have a Report button for members to flag material they feel should not be preserved which can then be brought to the attention of a moderator to decide what *really* needs to be gone. All else should be kept--even "Good-bye, I'll miss you guys!" has nostalgic and historic if not current value. As for the boards being cluttered, the problem will take care of itself as new posts are added, bumping the old ones down.

Daft, A lot of the old threads and posts can still be very useful for reference. Therefore, I find them important to keep...especially the older films and TV boards.
