PSA: You can access MovieChat boards from any IMDb page [NEW UPDATE]

All you need is a couple of scripts. Once installed, you'll be able to find message boards right where they used to be.

Desktop scripts (you need both of them):
Main script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/29472
Companion script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/29496

Mobile scripts (you need both of them):
Main script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/28263
Companion script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/29391

How does it look?

Mobile: https://i.imgur.com/LviryWr.png

Wait, what is a 'script' anyway?
Think of it as a (usually) tiny browser extension, compatible with every browsers as long as you have a Script Manager.
I advice you to use Tampermonkey (https://tampermonkey.net/). If you're using anything else, like Greasemonkey (an infamous update broke every scripts installed a few months back), I can't help you.

Warning
If you're a desktop user who installed a script from this thread before the 05/05/17, I advice you to uninstall it/them and install the two first scripts I linked above! Thank you :-)

Known bugs:
1. Users can't stay logged in when they browse from IMDb.
Fix: You must allow MovieChat to use cookies in your browser settings.

2. The navbar (notification bell, etc.) doesn't appear within a thread.

If you have any question feel free to ask here. And if you want to thank the original creator of the main script, drhouse, you can do so here (https://redd.it/5w1uft) on Reddit!
For what it's worth, our codes look nothing alike now.

Enjoy guys ;-)

PS: So the bold tag is still broken, heh?

My only concern about this is that if people use this, then it gives IMDb ALL it's traffic back!!

You will be back on IMDb propping up its traffic flow and to them that will seem like all is well again, people are visiting us again.

For those of us who want to boycott the site and not give it our visits which boost traffic to them, going there again and using the script for here just gives traffic not just to here but to them.

reply

Those who have a problem with IMDb won't use these scripts, obviously.
Personally I couldn't care less but I understand your point of view nonetheless.

Now it's not showing the names of the thread author, anymore. What the hell happened?

reply

Why the hell can't this script simply keep working?

reply

Well what I experience is:
When I view Movie Chat from my tablet, which is 75% of the time, the authors names show up for me whether I'm viewing the mobile version or the desktop version. BUT...
The other 25% of the time, I use my cellphone and if I view the desktop site on my cellphone I can see the authors names. But if I view the mobile version on my cellphone, the authors names don't show up for some reason (until you click on a thread). So try switching to the desktop site. That should help.

reply

No, the last time I tried that damn desktop version, the Moviechat board completely disappeared from view on IMDb.

reply

Oh I see what you're saying. You're saying this happens to you when you're viewing movie chat through the IMDb extension? I never bothered with that because I deleted my IMDb account the day they shut down.

reply

This damn script stopped working again and uninstalling doesn't fix it. What happened?

reply

Same here. IMDB became a really sad place again after this script stopped working. Does everybody experience the same problem?

reply

I don't know what the hell is going on or who to contact. Filmboards.com is like Moviechat and their script still works on IMDB.

reply

Thank you for the tip, will check out.

reply

what is this script ???

reply

It was a program you can add on to your browser so when you go to IMDB, the Moviechat boards appear.

reply

Still is, I updated it.

Next time it stops working, you guys should contact me on GreasyFork directly. Not that I'm super active there, but at least I check it more often than MovieChat.

Anyway, this "bug" gave me a chance to hugely clean my code ^^
(I was kind of a JS noob when I first posted it.)

Edit: Reading previous comments, I see it stopped working around a year ago. Well, damn. Sorry it took me so long to notice :-/

reply

You should travel on by more often, Mr. Traveler.

Many thanks for your help.

reply

You're very welcome ;-)

Very much appreciated!

Someone should suggest for Jim to either sticky this thread or make it known on Moviechat's front page that this site has the ability to be seen on IMDB. I think this would be a very attractive way to get more people using Moviechat. Embedded links to the scripts at the top of the front page would help too.

reply

Hi GK, I passed this suggestion along to Jim.

reply

Thanks, Moderator5. : )

reply

Thanks, it's working great now.

reply

Does this no longer work? Because I can't seem to get it to work.

Edit: nvm, got it to work.

reply

This Moviechat extension stopped working today because IMDB changed. Any chance for an update?

reply

what do you mean?

reply

The browser extension for Firefox that put Moviechat boards back on IMDB stopped working because IMDB changed recently. The browser extension needs updated.

reply

Ok, thanks!

Please update.....

Thank you!

I tried an ugly hotfix to make it show posts on the title page again: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/441534-deprecated-moviechat-org-message-boards-on-imdb-com-desktop
