Does Anyone Here Actually Go to Movie Theaters Anymore?

I'm a self-proclaimed movie snob and aficionado, but I honestly can't even remember the last time I went to a movie theater.

I consume all my movies now either on VOD (via my Fios box), Netflix, or some other method of streaming. It's crazy that going to a movie has actually become more expensive over the years, while at the same time the number of alternatives has increased. Why would I pay $20 for a ticket + $20 for snacks when I could just watch in the comfort of my own home?

I haven't been to the movies since... Rush Hour 2. Wow, that long ago, lol. But I don't regret it. I don't mind waiting for a movie I want to see come out on Blu Ray or whatever.

However, if a classic movie I love, such as Suspiria, or Metropolis, or Casablanca, were playing near me, I'd totally go. I wouldn't want to miss those experiences.

I guess what I'm saying is I haven't cared enough about more recent movies to bother seeing them at the theater.

Anywhere from one to five times per year depending on what plays at my town theater and when. Over three per year is unusual.

For the last 2-3 years, I've gotten down to the point very sadly to say, where it's rare for me to go to theaters more than 3-5(and rarely, perhaps as many as 6-8?) times a year. I have to want to watch a movie VERY, very badly, for me to go to a theater anymore. There are a lot of factors why, from how much more expensive movie theaters are nowadays(especially the big multiplex chains like AMC and Regal, sigh I miss Kerasotes), the fact fewer and fewer cheap theaters exist vs. years ago(love the crap outta Brew and View at the Vic in Chicago, and I still miss the cheap theater that used to exist in Morton Grove), and that I can see so many movies for free on either Amazon Prime or Netflix streaming.

The fact you have to deal with rude patrons too often at a multiplex who can't find the brain cells to turn off their damn phone during a movie, or do as little as volunteer to put their phone on vibrate and go outside of the theater to take a call if they must do so, is another negative aspect about indoor theaters. I wish more drive-ins still existed, since it allows for a more private experience seeing a movie inside your car.

At least I wish those patrons who can't keep their phone off could use the RunPee app, and figure out the best times to take a break that way. It's also great for having a summary of the 3-5 minute scene you don't see, plus it says whether there's an extra scene during the credits or not.

The last two films I saw were Nocturnal Animals and Silence.

I used to go to the movie theatre at least two times a week, sometimes more. Now it's only once every three months or so. The cinema is becoming too expensive, especially here in London. I also hate going to very busy screenings, because people just ANNOY me. Either they are talking or they have their phones out, or they are eating and slurping too loud. So I try to go to less busy screenings. What I have also found is that here in London, some films are only in the theatre for one or two weeks, before they are dumped into a really late session or disappear all together. The big budget films though are shown in dozens of cinemas and at all times for weeks on end. No wonder they do better in the box office.

It's been a few months for me. I generally go if it's a film I really want to see. Brimstone is hitting theatres here in the US on March 10th and you can bet your sweet bottom I'm going to see THAT one!! Been waiting ever since they announced filming it. I'm a huge Guy Pearce fan...love that man! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’•πŸ’•

I only go to movies that need to be seen on the big screen. Yesterday went to Batman Lego movie. Then again, if I saw it at home, I could pause it to really take it in.

The last movie I saw in the theater was The Shallows. Before that , it was Jurassic World and then, Prometheus in 3D.

In other words, I have to consider it visually appealing enough on the big screen.

Also, during my last excursion, a theater employee gave a spiel in front of the screen about being aware of exits and suspicious patrons ! The times we live in.
