You know Whirlybirds???
shareAm I showing my age. I am the other side of 60. One of the shows I watched as a young kid. The other was Cannonball.
shareIf you're showing your age then I am, too. My siblings and I watched Whirlybirds. We also watched Ripcord. I seem to remember Whirlybirds and Ripcord were broadcast back-to-back on our local TV station. I haven't heard of Cannonball before.
shareRipcord yeh also remember that. A sky diving outfit. . Cannonball about a couple of 16 wheeler long haul drivers. It was a Brit/Canada co production so unlikely you saw it in the Us. It was certainly shown on Australian tv. Another of my must watches in those days was Sea Hunt with Lloyd Bridges. I rewatched a remastered version of the whole series last year.
shareAh, yes. Sea Hunt. Another classic from my childhood.
shareNostalgia is a great thing. What else did you watch.
shareThe Lone Ranger. Who didn't watch that if they were a kid back then?
shareNever was a huge western fan but yes I did watch the Lone Ranger. Just went onto YouTube Glenn and there are Ripcord episodes. Will watch those again for sure. There is also first release footage of a stunt gone wrong during filming. Not sure whether the stuntman died or not. Did I see a parachute?
shareI missed a lot of these shows as I was locked away for much of my childhood in a draconian boarding school. We were allowed one hour television on weeknites and 2 hrs on weekends. The only time I got to watch all my fave shows was on school holidays.
shareBoarding school sounds awful to me - always have. You did better than I did - we were allowed a half-hour a day, but on Saturdays we could watch morning cartoons from whenever we got up until noon. As time went by though, the rules were relaxed to an hour a day.
shareThose viewing restrictions were by your parents? Yes boarding school was terrible. Very lonely for a 7 year old who had recently lost his father and was then removed from his mother without any explanation.
shareYes, by my parents. I cannot fathom sending a child, particularly a young child, to boarding school. Heck, I didn't even send my children to pre-school (common here in the US).
shareWhat were your fave cartoons? Merry Melodies were mine with Daffy Duck as my all time fave character. Also liked Foghorn Leghorn and Elmer Fudd.
shareMostly the cartoons from Warner Brothers, I would say, which includes those you mentioned; Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester & Tweety, etc., but also a lot of Hanna-Barbera productions such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Yogi Bear.
shareHanna-Barbera..yes Yogi Bear.. love him and his little buddy Boo Boo.. cant not go past the Flintstones tho. I still watch them.
shareI remember watching that YouTube video of the stunt gone wrong but can't remember exactly what the outcome was.
Time for some "tubing" of old favorites, I think.
Rin tin tin...it's been a while. I completly forgott about him.
shareI think the Coreys each deserve their own number.
