Forever Young- Rod Stewart

reply

I really like the Alphaville song. Less so Rod Stewart, just in general.

This is an odd one, but it always makes me happy for some reason. Also, has Phil Collins been in movies? He ain't half bad here.

Genesis - Jesus He Knows Me

reply

It is a little odd but it's so you.

I know Collins was in an episode of Miami Vice and he had his own movie in the 80's.
Buster. It was pretty bad. I feel he kept his acting talents well hidden.

The video is what gets me everytime. I love it!

I liked the first and third ones. The second one, not so much...

I've seen these guys a couple times.
They're actually really good live. Not to mention Tis the season.

When you said "tis the season" I honestly thought "Christmas?" Those guys are good, if only the people in the booth would shut up!

I'm in the spirit now, thanks to you!

reply

Christmas? It's October.
This isn't the Mall of Sofia.

I hope I didn't start something.
I've never heard that song before.
It was great. I loved all the old footage about the bomb.
They used to teach you to drop down and cover your head. Cuz that would work.
I wonder how they ever tested that theory.

This one is kind of Halloweenish in a weird way.

reply

It also isn't Halloween where I live. Or at least I'd like to pretend like it's not! In any case, it's not the first thing that pops in my head when I hear "tis the season".

I don't thing it's supposed to protect you from the radiation, but to protect your eyes from the blinding flash of the blast. As for the testing, soldiers and the nation of Japan would be my guess.

I don't know if it's Halloweeny that song, but it's catchy.

reply

Over here we use "tis the season" to mean any season that you're in.
Either holidays or even summer etc...

Scary thing is in those videos once they dropped and covered their heads
they weren't moving around. Maybe this actual footage from the test.
I wouldn't put it past us at all.

I just thought Halloween and candy. Candy is chewy.
It was a stretch I know. Should have stuck to The Monster Mash.

reply

Maybe it's because of that song "tis the season to be jolly, etc."

You'll need some time to recover from the shock, wouldn't you? All we got were earthquake videos, and the Japanese people in them looked very lively.

I got the connection the first time around, thank you. You just didn't seem very sure.

Here are some songs btw:

I'm sure they did look lively. Wouldn't you if a giant prehistoric creature was
chasing you?

I'm never sure. You have to know this by now.

I never heard the first one. If dude can get away with wearing a headband
and pink pants then I say go for it.
Franz Ferdinand is always good.

Happy Together by the Turtles, such a goofy song I can't help but smile at it.
Werewolves of London by Warren Zevron is another goofy song that is a lot of fun.

Never heard that Acid Jazz singer song before. Good song but does not have that same "can't help but smile" feel that the 2 i gave give me. Maybe that is because I need something goofy to get me to feel good. How do I not smile at line like:

"I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's
And his hair was perfect"

reply

Ha!

Like I said I have no idea why it makes me smile. It just does.
Goofy is great. There's a lot of those songs on here too.
Both of your's are perfect examples.

Main thing is we can all find happiness from music.
One of my favorite quotes-

“Without music, life would be a mistake”

The interesting thing I find about music is it demonstrates perfectly the idea of what is good. Music is good when it is harmonious. It follows that for anything to be good it needs to be harmonious. Maybe that is what good means 'the proper balance of harmony with order'. Given added context like lyrics you can not only hit people at an almost spiritual level with the music itself but also lead them in a unique way to a unavoidable emotional reaction. This is why we can't help but smile at some songs I think.

reply

Well said.

It seems music is one of those things that everybody can relate good memories too.
Also bad ones but I think mostly good. Beautiful music also has the ability to make
you emotional.

Everybody has "those songs" that remind them of the first time you fell in love, your first dance,
your first kiss, that one time you and your friends did whatever it was etc...

I've told this before but about 20 years ago I was able to see Jeff Buckley a few years before
he died. He came out and did his rendition of Hallelujah and it brought tears to my eyes.
I was crying like a little kid in the middle of thousands of people. I wasn't the only one.

That's the power of music.
