It makes a lot of sense since Donald Trump has made threats against his political enemies. He has threatened to jail all of the J6 Committee members and he even suggested that Mark Milley should be executed. The problem for most people is that they don't have the resources to pay for lawyers and the people targeted by Trump's DOJ would exhaust all their time and money on lawyers fees and legal cases.

shareNO! I posted above the problem that most people have with investigations. The targeted people will have to hire lawyers and spend time testifying in court and preparing for these cases. It's the same reason why there is a Presidential immunity from prosecution. Trump doesn't have this problem because he can pay for his legal expenses by diverting money from his businesses, foundations or from donations. A lot of lawyers want tens of thousands of dollars up front before they work on a case. This will bankrupt most people.

Pardons should only be for those that have been found guilty or have made restitution.

Presidential pardons only apply to Federal charges; it doesn’t apply to state, local or international charges. They will still need to hire lawyers.
And those pardons will not apply if they are charged with treason or fraud.
Trump is probably secretly relieved that this political grenade has been removed from his list of impossible promises to keep. And now, he too can utilize the power of preemptive pardons as he chooses and without any political consequence. The precedent is terrible. It confirms the most cynical criticism of the American justice system about the unequal treatment of untouchable elites. The whole thing was unleashed by the corrupt and excessive maneuverings purely to keep Trump off the ballot. Had Biden not been so mentally incapacitated, he could have negotiated a political settlement before the inauguration that would not have created a get-out-of-jail federal immunity for powerful people to do whatever they want.
I doubt it. I suspect he wanted to go after these people. We'll see if they are still investigated. Trump better focus on the important promises that got him elected instead of all these territorial conquests. Most US voters don't care about the Gulf of Mexico, Greenland, Canada or Panama. They mostly wanted a better economy and cheaper gas/groceries. Mid-terms are in two years but we'll see if the old fart can even survive until then. He'll probably start having old man freezes like Mitch McConnell or he might just drop dead from all the stress.
There have been plenty of horrible pardons by Presidents and Governors throughout history. I want to see pardons and commutations go away since they undermine the justice system. I don't expect lawmakers to do away with pardons since they all want them.
The court cases against Trump were all legitimate. The problem was that Trump was able to delay all the cases partly due to the Supreme Court intervention, a corrupt GA prosecutor and a complicit judge in Florida.
Biden and Trump are BOTH mentally incapacitated so there wouldn't be a political settlement. There shouldn't be any political settlements concerning criminal matters. The law should operate independently of politics and there is zero proof that the investigations against Donald Trump or the Bidens were politically motivated.
