Artificial Insemination (IVF)

Is this another conservative trigger point?

I didnt know it was an political "thing" but I heard Trump being asked what he thought of it the other day.

reply

Trump said the gov will pay for it. total silence from the leftoids.

reply

That's because in many cases they should.

Defendant Donald's problem is the recent verdict in Alabama where on February 16, 2024, the state Supreme Court issued a first-of-its-kind decision that overruled a lower court's dismissal and held that stored embryos are afforded the same legal protection as children. This had a drastic effect on IVF services in the state.

Given the unpopularity of abortion restriction in the country generally and the large number of IVF treatments among Republican supporters, given the close nature of this coming election , Defendant Donald has felt the need to row back somewhat especially as the fear is that voters will feel that abortion restrictions nationally could be extended to IVF if he wins.

reply

"total silence from the leftoids."

Well what noise were you expecting the leftoids to make?
What noise are the magas making ?

This is the point of my op
Who's for , who is against ?

For me its pretty wild that peoples opinions on this would be dictated by the political party they vote for, so im trying to establish if this is the case.

reply

was expecting the liberal hive mind to freak out and whine about how much it will cost...

too late, I stand corrected.

Donald Trump announced Thursday that he will require insurance companies or the government to cover "all costs associated" with in-vitro fertilization if he's reelected.

Pray tell, where does "the government" get the money to spend? = the same way "the government" got the money to pay off student loans and to send Ukraine billions.

reply

"That's brilliant! I wish I'd said it!"

Oh wait - I did say it!

I don't understand why the Trailertarians don't vote Democratic, Dems will spend for anything and everything you want, and they won't piss on your leg and tell you "it's conservative."

reply

No, they'll just tax you on gains you haven't realized, and force you into the street....sounds much better.

reply

Dems are up front about it. FOX et all used to call GOP the "Daddy Party." They never were, but today money grows on cactus as well as trees...

You voting for Jill Stein this year?

reply

The old GOP is a rotting corpse ready to be removed from the floor.

I'll be voting to MAGA.

reply

Ah right so its not the actual subject of IVF thats causing the controversy , just the cost of it?
fair enough I get that

"Trump announced Thursday that he will require insurance companies or the government to cover "all costs associated""

So thats on peoples health insurance right? therefore cost will be covered by all the other customers , as is the way insurance works.
Are there any other things covered by Health insurance that shouldnt be ? you know - things that wouldnt kill ya?
therapy? viagra? anti depressants?

reply

"cost will be covered by all the other customers, as is the way insurance works."

That's what I said. "We want more babies, with someone else's money."

reply

yeah i got that , i wasnt denying it

But , as I said thats insurance - look at all those freeloaders falling off their bikes , breaking their legs and getting a free cast on your money!

I've never claimed on any of the many types of insurance I pay for - like house insurance , then you get other assholes pushing the prices up by throwing their TV down the stairs every time they want a new one.

I guess the question is, is finding yourself infertile and needing medical assistance to have a baby the same thing as finding you have any other medical issue you would normally have your insurance pay for?

This website says the cost of IVF in California is roughly $20k.

https://www.pfcla.com/blog/ivf-costs-california#:~:text=PGT%2DM%20(PGD),identification%20of%20specific%20gene%20mutations.

Just my opinion, but no one should be having kids until their late 20's, I had mine in my early 30's, you need to live with your significant other for at least 4 years beforehand...

$20k expense can be planned for.

That's what I said. "We want more babies, with someone else's money."

In the UK IVF is offered on the NHS, at least if certain criteria are met.

reply

what I find mind blowing, is that dems have no problems spending money when they are in charge. but when republicans are in charge they are for fiscal responsibility and whine about the national debt.

the supreme court said it was illegal to pay off student loans. Joe said FU I am going to do it anyways. if Trump had done that. Nancy and the dems would be trying to impeach him.

"Who the hell cares about the budget? We're going to have a country!"

reply

yup, now in the almost past 4 years the national debt has went from $27t to $34t and dems dont care. free money for everyone!

reply

Why the hell would the right complain about government funded healthcare? It's the right that does this shit. If anything, silence from them would be an outrage in itself since they love giving tax breaks while making up for it by cutting social/health services.

reply

More babies are a good thing. We're heading for societal collapse if we don't replace our population organically, and not from the 3rd world that do not know how to maintain 1st world infrastructure.

reply

basically, america will be like Idiocracy except with brown people.

reply

It's been a political issue for many years. Those who believe in "fetal personhood " have long claimed that that IVT involves murder because unused embryos are discarded. The Catholic just doesn't approve of the use of artificial means of reproduction, athough I think they must advise their own people on this and don't makes a fuss over non-catholics who do it.
The flash point is that since Dobbs, there have been laws passed in several states that ban the practice. This has caused a big backlash. Since Trump thinks that such matters should be left to the states, he is being asked about it.

reply

wow banned in Alabama
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68366337

Infertile people using medicine to help have a baby that would otherwise never get to be born ..... Murderers!
Whoda thunk it?

reply

I forget if it was Alabama where lawmakers have tried backtracking saying they didn't realize their law would ban IVF. Maybe it was another state. Just shows they reactively pass these laws when they don't even understand the things they are regulating.

reply

They really opened up a can of worms by catering to the fundies.

reply

also I am available for in person insemination, if you dont mind riding a bull. no fatties...

reply

A valuable service for those not allowed the IVF!

reply

haha agreed.
