The deployment is support capacity only. We need to protect people trying to help (aid workers), advisers, politicians visiting. It's no invasion force. It's an allied country. The minute this turns into another Vietnam I'll change my tune but until then I'm not going to use this to spread fear and discontent just for shits & gigs.

Yeah escalation is a possiblity. The headline "2k US troops deployed..." is striking but I feel like that's partially by design to get clicks.
