So, when are we ever going to have sensible gun laws?

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/05/24/us/texas-school-shooting-deaths.html

You can make all the excuses you want but these common events are uniquely American and American only. No other country has this much mass shootings and school shootings on this scale so you can shove all that crap excuse about more guns means less of this or that a good guy with a gun would've stopped it because they're all now starting to wear body armor of lvl 3 or higher. Shooters are learning, they aren't going in with just thin clothes no more.

This dude literally crashed his car, engaged police, and ran into the Elementary School and started going room by room blowing kids to bits. 19 kids and 2 adults have been confirmed dead now. 2nd worst school shooting since Sandy Hook of 20 kids and 6 adults.

If it's too early to talk about Uvalde because you think this is somehow political then lets talk about:

Sandy Hook.

Or Parkland.

Or El Paso.

Or Pittsburgh.

Or Las Vegas.

Or Orlando.

Or Buffalo.

Or Fort Hood.

Or Aurora.

Or Virginia Tech.

Or San Bernadino.

Or Columbine.

Or Boulder.

Or Sutherland Springs.

Oh wait, let me guess, they're all false flag paid actors to take away your guns.

Honestly man, gun culture is dug into this country like a tick with adamantium pincers. The more dead people(kids especially) that are dropped, the louder the deflections to mental health or more guns to fix the problem will get. So no, it will probably never happen in our lifetime.

reply

I don't think mental heath is a 'deflection'. It goes to the numbers argument. There are how many guns in this country owned legally? and how many are used to shoot up a school in this fashion? There are hundreds/thousands of people of all ages, sexes, races who own guns in this country legally; how many of them go on shooting sprees? It's not the guns that are the problem. There is something wrong with the people that DO choose violence to fix their problems. Why do they want to be famous this way? If they want to kill themselves, damnit then do it. But why take innocent lives with you? What was so bad in their lives they felt the need to do this? Was it a religious reason? family? There is a reason people decide they have to take a weapon (gun, knife, car/truck) and cause mass destruction.

And of course saying 'mental health' can be a buzz word just as much as 'common sense gun laws'. You are NEVER going to prevent every single atrocity. But by looking the other way and trying to downplay the role mental health plays in these awful scenarios, you're not going to fix anything.

Columbine was the first school shooting I was aware of. I was in high school when it happened. That was 23 years ago. 23 years of new laws, education on gun safety and yet still, people miss the warning signs from these people. How many school shootings have we had since? How many people all come out after the fact saying shooter did this, told them that, posted something and it was all ignored. People can ignore the mental health all they want but it's only hurting us finding an actual solution to prevent these atrocities.

reply

If you are complaining about the gun laws you likely don't know what you have to go through to buy a gun anyway. The laws on the books are fine.

reply

The real problem is lack of fathers.

reply

How do you suggest we fix that?

reply

I dunno where this mentality of having to need a father to not be senile or crazy. As if a mother is not capable of raising a male or some crap like that. I know the right especially likes to use this on black folk, about the lack of a male role model or father if you will. I watch enough Fox News to notice this especially.

reply

Exactly.

reply

We don't need more gun laws. We need mental health reform, and fathers in the home.

reply

Also a society that doesn’t consider men to be disposable.

reply

Exactly, why should men of character participate in a society that hates them?

reply

Because they have character? What society hates men anyway?

reply

Maybe not men in general but there are those that despise white males or patriarchy. There are misandry out there but not to the extent of misogynists.

reply

Calling out the privileged behavior of white males isn't hating them right? Can we agree with that?

reply

What privileged behavior? I'd love to hear this.

reply

Really want to know when? When America ceases having a large Black population. Canada and UK -> few Blacks -> tough gun laws. USA -> large Black population -> loose gun laws.

reply

What makes you think banning certain guns will actually work? We have a gang issue in the country and they have unmolested access to guns, which then hit the streets. The war on drugs has been a huge failure. The war on guns will see the same outcome if we agree to it.

reply

What makes you think decreasing guns won't decrease gang access to those guns?

reply

Well, just look at drugs. They are banned yet the gangs and dealers still spread them across the country.

reply

Not the comparison I would go with. Drugs are physically addictive.

reply

They are gang members, they have already decided they don't give a shit about the law or society. All gun control would do is disarm people who follow the law.

Also the DemoKKKrats have taken a stance that they aren't going to enforce the laws that we already have as they have let thugs, and domestic terrorists run loose with no consequences, they have no moral authority in this issue at all. The first step to solving gun violence is to enforce the laws that we already have and not defund the police.

reply

We already have sensible gun laws, change will happen when the DemoKKKrats decide they want to enforce them.
