MASS PSYCHOSIS - How an Entire Population Becomes MENTALLY ILL

I never really thought I would live an episode of mass hysteria in my lifetime but it's going on strong and it seems impossible to stop.
As a scientist I've tried everything, I sacrificed my career and was threatened by many colleagues for this, yet it served no purpose.
Luckily I wouldn't work anymore in science even if I was allowed, the ethical implications are too much for my conscience, I prefer to sleep without guilt.
Out of curiosity, what was your field of science? Feel free to ignore this question.
