After 4 years of no new wars, the establishment need to start again immediately! I bet on North Korea already in the first few months. Then Belarus then Iran.

The Democrats were hell bent on syria
The plans were
.
Gadaffi / libya check
Saddam/ iraq check
Oboma/ Afghanistan check
Egypt/ Mubarak check
But they never got to finish off Syria/Assad.
Out of nowhere Obama asked Congress for war with Syria and was denied.
Then they went for the full emotional hit. Syria used chemical weapons on kids.
Nope he still couldn't get that war.
But hey isis wanted to invade Syria, so maybe Obama looked the other way letting isis do what they wanted
It is not Democrats or Republicans, it is the so-called Deep State, or the long-term political planning of the US military and those factions in government whose job it is to keep this country safe secure and plan for the future.
That is, a country does not spend as much as the rest of the world combined on the military to throw it all away. Strategists in the military, and private sectors look at hot spots in the world, and the Middle East has been one since the formation of this country.
I believe the plan is to creep up on Iran, the center of Islamic Radicalism, over time, which is why after 9-11 you heard people talking about a low-level war that would last 100 years to reshape the Middle East. When Iran falls, Saudi Arabia will as well, or it will just be waited out.
The reasons we do this are many. We use our military equipment to work the bugs out of it and evolve it. We have a trained military the best in the world to deter other countries from testing us. Our technology mainly derives from military spending - which when appropriate is released to private industry.
SIDENOTE - One way or another the American taxpayer funds almost all of the development of industry, technology, and even agriculture and infrastructure ... and yet, when the people ask for or even demand a return on their investment, they get called socialists or communists and denigrated. The other source of resources is nature, and we are hell bent on destroying it, but it is only recently that for example Alaskan residents have gotten a share of the resources of Alaska when they are developed. What about the rest of the country.
This is basically a brainwashing way to impress the mentality of undeserving slaves on Americans so they can be exploited - but when you go back and consider the wealth that was created by tapping working Americans' taxes, taking the First Nation People's lands and resources, building the country to critical mass with African slave labor - mix it all together, back date it, and this country owes its people a massive payback, and the people who have taken advantage of this system to lock others out owe the country a huge penance.
Put them together and think it through and we should being this country anew with a clear understanding of what and why our national goals are.

I guess a big part of my point is that the "deep state" or what I call the deep state is a primordial part of our government and the body of it will do everything it can to not allow us to let our guard down ... even to the point of having a President like Trump ... or in general civilian short-horizon leadership.
Plus, the system does work. Develop technology for the military - ahead of most of the rest of the world. Test it in battlefield situations and improve. This is information and protocols that other countries just cannot get. Eventually filter it own in consumer goods, internet, telecommunications satellites, electronics, GPD, etc ... and produce or license the tech to the rest of the world and rake money in ... but the problem is that this money though paid for with the lives of soldiers, and with our tax dollars does not work its way to average Americans.
The problem is not that we have a military, or that we go to war - though no one is comfortable losing Americans to war, the problem is the interference of Wall St., organized crime, and the threat of the public demanding the military be shut down or changed drastically in a way that goes against its long term plans. The problem is that we have turned and are turning the lower majority of Americans into virtual slaves with no hope that live desperate unsustainable and unproductive lives.
We need a kind of Union for American citizens ... that looks after the best interests of regular people, which today should include the vetting or anything that makes to the public mind, because there is a lot of lies and viciousness out there. Just the attitude makes people snap and bicker and fight with each other.
There is no need. But, there is that comment from Jesus in the Christian tradition, "render unto caesar that which is caesars" ... which I take to mean that we must be tolerant, but vigilant and critical of the Military Industrial Complex ... and we have not been, we have been lax and irresponsible.
