Who would you fire if you ran a business?

Who would you fire if you ran a business, or in a higher level management position:

There's a manager/supervisor below you who constantly complains about the employees in her department. She hires these employees and then fires them because "they're absolutely terrible." And that department isn't performing the way it's supposed to be performing.

This happens constantly in businesses.

reply

Did I hire the manager? If so, then I vetted her during her hiring process and know why kind of person she is.

reply

Added detail: she doesn't look like Hope Hicks.

Do you still keep her?

reply

Oh. Then she's fired! 😁

I would need more info. Assuming that I hired the manager and have no idea why the turnover rate with her is so high would cause me to investigate more. I would either inject myself in the hiring process or interview the staff at random times to get a better idea of the situation.

If she hires and fires people that she personally selects, it doesn't make her look good either. Assuming that the staff are incapable of doing the work required, it would make her firings reasonable, but her hires are questionable and I would take the hiring decisions away from her.

reply

This all sounds reasonable from your angle, but the people who are trying to get a decent job and get scuttled because of poor management from both the immediate boss and their boss ruins this person's chance to get ahead.
Personal bias runs rampant in business. If you don't laugh at the bosses jokes, you aren't a team player.
Bosses don't make serious and compassionate decisions. They hack and slash hoping it makes them look they are working hard. Good people who are asked to do more than what is capable get tossed aside until someone realizes the whole scheme is wrong, and the test pilots all crash and burn.

reply

I look at it from my angle personally. If I hire a person, that person's performance is a representation of my decision making. It is in my best interest to choose a person capable and qualified for the duties I'm hiring as well as fit the environment of the job.

The bosses that you are describing seem to be bosses that are extremely paranoid and possibly inept while at the same time, you are assuming the workers are qualified and capable and have zero faults. There are so many variables to be considered and so many factors in why one person gets hired over another and why people are fired. That's not to say people are being fired or laid off unfairly.

reply

Hall of Fame NFL coach Bill Parcells called it "roster churning" and went out of his way to do that. If the manager's policies are having excellent results but she's being hampered by insubordinate holdovers from the previous regime, and she's new in town so at times she's relied on more senior employees for lists of potential hirees with a vision different from hers who keep turning out bad, she should clean house. The manager was hired for a reason and should be allowed to implement her agenda.

reply

"she's being hampered by insubordinate holdovers from the previous regime"

That isn't my hypothetical, and it isn't my analogy.

reply

Then maybe you posted it on the wrong board.

reply

Maybe your reading comprehension skills suck.

reply

That'd be a sucker bet.

reply

I posted about republican vs democratic deficits. krl97a (Keith) gives me

"2009 - 9.8%
2019 - 4.6%"
as his evidence dems are worse.

I give him 20 years in a row of deficit information and he screams that I am cherrypicking

reply

LOL! Go ahead - it's time for you to take a victory lap around him, as well. Poor guy just doesn't know when to give up - he's relentless in his stupidity.

reply

I can't tell if he is just tolling or really this dumb

reply

I'll go for the latter.

reply

Its an unwinnable system he set up in our debate over republican vs democratic deficit spending. No matter what, whether its the presidency controlled by the dems of a chamber in the house. its always them to blame for spending and never the republicans

reply

Wrong, Susan. You've got it backwards. You're the idiot who started an entire thread blaming "conservatives" for deficits as if liberal Democrats would somehow be better. Among the mountains of data I posted refuting you that you're running away from is this....

Deficit

2017 - 3.5%
2018 - 3.8% (small uptick)

Democrats Take the House

2019 - 4.6% (big uptick)

Yep. I understand you're upset that I destroyed your stupid partisan thread, but you still lose, Susan.

reply

He is blindly partisan, not dumb.

reply

They do - I just posted this response to him in another thread. He needs to take remedial reading courses.

reply

😄😄😄😄 Poor Doggiedaddy and Susan (Jlaws) are so desperate and bitter from being ass stomped by me every time we debate that they're following me around to different threads like the butthurt losers they are posting mindless drivel like this over and over again that they can't even begin to support. Doggie, who can barely read, attacking my reading comprehension is especially hilarious.

I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings that bad, Doggie. Owning you is just something that happens.

1. Punctuation is your friend. You need to take a remedial course in writing, as well as reading.

2. Once you learn to write correctly, you should try writing something truthful some time. These lies you keep posting are tiresome to all.

3. Time to take another victory lap around you - I need to finish my 10,000 steps today, so thanks!

reply

Artistic licence, hypocrite. You'd only embarrass yourself further with a focus on grammar or writing ability. And see? You're widely known as the biggest liar on the board...

...while you can't point to a single lie I've told. You've never taken a "victory lap", poor Doggiedaddy. All your "steps" come from dodging points and fleeing debates. Take another defeat lap. You've earned it.

reply

Yeah, because when we look for truth we always turn to chilone's post because she's the beacon of truth and honesty. LOL! By the way, whatever happened to your KKKomrade? Looks like she fled this forum after everyone called her out for her lies and lunacy.

Dear God, but you're stupid.

reply

He was right, moron. Your claim that Netanyahu had been "convicted" was false, like your claim that Tucker Carlson was about to be fired several months ago (he's still there, going strong, btw), a Trump official has proposed altering the Statue of Liberty, and countless other lies you've posted, including about chilone and other posters here.

That's why you're being ripped and ridiculed by the board on that thread, as usual.

reply

If you hire someone it’s your job to train and motivate them.

These types of managers who constantly point the finger and throw everyone under the bus are the worst. They’re a cancer and should be canned immediately. They’re bad for moral and bad for business. You can always spot them a mile away. Always micromanaging. Always looking to catch people not working rather than leading by example.

If you every find yourself stuck under one. Do yourself a favor and leave immediately. They will only hold you back in life.

reply

Are you trying to compare Democracy with running a business? Is this the angle you are going for? They are not the same. Ethics and an article called The Constitution are the rules of a Democracy. Those rules do not apply in business.

reply

"Conservatives" love comparing government to business. And the current CEO would be replaced by the Board of Directors in a heartbeat.

reply

Profit is also something you strive for in business. It is not in gov't. Gov't is there to serve the people, not turn a profit. Not that it matters, but Bill Clinton was the last to oversee a "profit" in gov't and he left office with a budget surplus. Bush Jr. quickly fucked that up until another Democrat had to win office and fix his mess.

reply

Yes the Bubba surplus that went from 3 trillion to 6 trillion in 3mo. June 2000 to August 2000. Their estimated projections were only off 100%. And magically disappeared as soon as W suggested a tax cut. Great times! Thanks for the reminding us.

Obama never produced nor did he claim to produce a budget surplus. Whoops another fail.

reply

Never said that. Reading is hard!

reply

“Obama fixed the mess” when discussing how Bush f’d up Bubbas surplus.

Fail again. Damn dude take a breath.

reply

"Fixed" doesn't mean "left a surplus". Bye troll. You really suck at this.

reply

I would fire people who weren't doing their job, harassing or abusing fellow co-workers, and refused to change their ways if given a chance to improve.

reply

And that's all an employee can hope for. I'd work for a boss like that.
