Room - Emma Donoghue

I'm in the middle of reading Aloha Rodeo, about the introduction of cattle to Hawaii, the origin of Hawaiian cowboys, the beginnings of Frontier Days (the largest rodeo in the world) in Cheyenne, WY, and how mainland cowboys made the mistake of dismissing the Hawaiians when they traveled some 4000 miles to compete in the rodeo. Interesting reading about a group of Hawaiians I never realized played such a big part in Hawaii's history.

I've also just started "Through Dakota Eyes," which has accounts of the Minnesota Indian War of 1862, as told by members of the Dakota tribes.

Nice, its very good so far. I love books like this, human interest I guess you could call it? Not quite sure what the genre would be called although this is a memoir. Glad to hear you are going to read it too! :D

Currently I'm working thru the Audiobook of "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand...

and reading "Battlefield Earth: A Saga in the Year 3000" by L.Ron Hubbard...

Unfortunately the movies of both left much to be desired...much more so with Battlefield Earth.

I think if they used the same actors for the characters in all three parts of Atlas Shrugged it would have been a much better production overall...

I just finished reading "Deadliest Enemy: our war against killer germs" by epidemiologist Michael T. Osterholm first published in 2017. He discusses his life-long work with infectious diseases, including SARS, MERS, malaria, and influenza, as well as the 1918 pandemic. He talks about the growing concern of antibiotic resistance and bio-terrorism. He also describes what a pandemic could look like in today's world. His scenario is eerily similar to what we are seeing today (keep in mind he wrote this about four years ago). He includes a list of things we ought to be doing to deal with a pandemic. Very interesting read. This man knows his stuff.

I'm currently reading St Paul, An Urban Biography by Bill Lindeke. It's one I picked up during my last perusal at the library. One reason I chose it is that it's new, published this year. Also, I lived in the Twin Cites for many years, but always lived on the Minneapolis side of the river and didn't know much about St Paul and its history. I've been surprised at the amount of corruption that was embedded in its culture as the city grew. Yes, I'm aware that we're still dealing with corruption, but this really opened my eyes about a lot of things. Still have a few chapters left to read, too.
