Number one mistake actors commonly make.

From a viewer's point of view, the number one mistake TV and film actors make is; when filming a scene where one actor is supposed to be driving and talking to another actor in the car, they take their eyes off the road for too long and pay attention to the conversation, not the driving. Not realistic. In real life they would crash most of the time.

Add that to the doors always being unlocked and you have a sloppy scene.

When there's a scene like that, I always anticipate the car is going to crash because they aren't looking where they are driving.

I hope the OP realises that the primary reason for it is that the actors are not actually driving the car on the road themselves.

In the old days they used back projection to simulate driving, with the actors sitting in a mockup of the car with a moving background behind them. Very unconvincingly, it has to be said.

These days cars are usually on a low loader being pulled along, with someone else driving the truck. Cameras will usually be placed in front of the car or at the sides.

So as a rule the actors are never actually driving...hence why they dont have to worry too much about keeping their eyes on the road etc.

And if you think its unrealistic...tough...its a movie. It's something thats been done for years. Primarily for safety reasons.
