I feel you’re missing the point of the original film. It wasn’t ridiculous at all, it was IMHO, a brilliantly crafted depiction of power and manipulation. Survival of the fittest.

I couldn’t agree more. I loathed the ending of this remake, and was disappointed that they bottled-out of the original ending and adapted a softer Hollywood fluff ball. The original film, personally, I believe to be one of the most shocking I’ve seen for some time and applauded the creators confidence to produce a truly disturbing, cold blooded end. I was not expecting it. I think the whole film (original) was brilliantly acted, awkward, uncomfortable and shocking, I felt it all. It’s not often a film produces a physical response for me like that. This remake, ugh, invoked no emotion beyond irritation. I’m a big fan of Macovoy but this was not his best work at all, I thought he was terrible in comparison to his predecessor.
