I don't think they can growl either but it did in the original.
No, it's a good film. Cry harder.
Brosnan's not fit to shine McQueen's shoes.
No. They're crap.
Because he's an average actor at best?
He was terrible.
Craig would beat the shit out of him. Brosnan always looked as though he'd rather preen himself in front of the mirror more than anything else.
I often criticize Batman Returns and far more than I do Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Why? Because there's some things I really like about Returns. There's a classic Batman film in there somewhere. I just wish Michael Keaton was in it more, the plot more coherent, and the tone more mature. Not darker, more mature. Some people mistake dark for mature but this and Temple Of Doom are perfect examples that they're not. Both have dark moments/themes but both are incredibly juvenile and childish at times too.
One of the best examples of how to do dark and mature is The Empire Strikes Back.
I took it as all the women in the four films and couldn't understand why the OP had left out some names. I didn't even notice Bruce Wayne's name🙄
Kubrick's far superior to Tarantino.
Kim Basinger
Nicole Kidman
Drew Barrymore
Alicia Silverstone
Elle McPherson
Michelle Pfeiffer
Uma Thurman
"Batman Returns is better"
It isn't.
"More atmospheric"
It's definetly got atmosphere but ruined by the fact that there's no scope to it and you can't shake off the stagey feel of the film.
"relies on the Joker's catchy one liners"
As opposed to Batman Returns which is full of one liners from Batman, Penguin, and Catwoman, as well as frequent Adam West levels of camp.
"plus it takes too long to get going"
At least it knows where it's going. Batman Returns can't make up it's mind what the hell it's even about.
"more fleshed out characters"
I don't see how Batman was more fleshed out than he was in the original. He was reactive in '89. In this, he just sits around a lot sulking and often just lets villains walk away. Example, when the poodle catches one of his gadgets. It's just "so long muggers, have a nice night".
And how were Catwoman and The Penguin fleshed out exactly? Fans of the film can't even make up their own minds if she was brought back to life via the supernatural or not, and she spends the entire film flip flopping between who she's against. Shrek "kills her" and she just blows up one of his stores which we never even see him bothered about. Batman saved her and she's got more of a vendetta against him. What was her goal exactly? That goes for The Penguin too. Tim Burton obviously wants us to feel sorry for him like Edward Scissorhands but it doesn't work because Edward wasn't a disgusting character who wanted to kill children. And Shrek was pointless. No idea why someone as wealthy and corrupt as him hadn't run for Mayor himself or pushed his son to long before he even knew about Penguin so he could have more influence and control over the city. He made no sense as a character. He was so pointless you could've just written him out.
Batman - 8.5/10
Batman Returns - 6
He'll blame the Jews.
It's a good looking film, love the snowy setting, some of the actors do their best but ultimately the script is dog shit.
"Why (insert character's name) as I live and breathe. Aren't you (backstory info dump)?".
"Well, yes I am. And you are?".
"Well I'm (backstory info dump)".
"Well I guess that makes us friends/enemies".
That's the movie for about two hours. Just characters exchanging their motivations with each other. It was beyond tedious.
It is but to be fair it's hard to imagine Sabastian Shaw as the man who was always under the costume as well. I hated how Return Of The Jedi made Vader a pussy.
Darth Vader will always be the character in Star Wars and Empire to me. That's his iconography.
Jaws 4 is the most watchable Jaws sequel. All the Jaws sequels are poor. 2 wants to desperately be as serious and thrilling as the original but rarely manages it, and 3's just a complete bore despite a great premise.
This is just flat out ridiculous nonsense and great for a laugh.
She looked better in Batman and Never Say Never Again.
It's simply poor, contrived writing. Ridley Scott says on the audio commentary track himself that Louise is the "mother" in the relationship. Always thinking, planning, being cautious, and sees Thelma as sheltered and naive. So it just doesn't add up and make logical sense for the character to do that.
It's Ridley. He loves his rain.
