In reality I don’t think she would have actually been able to do these things. Although Ben did help her to find the job so maybe the employer was a bit more lax with background checks etc as he knew her.

I think deep down Martin had an inferiority complex, that’s why he would take his frustrations out on Laura. When the opportunity arose to go sailing with the doctor, Martin wanted to impress him so didn’t make the necessary precautions.

I think Martin was always a sociopath but turned insane when he realised Laura might still be alive. After Laura’s funeral and just before he takes the call from the lady from the YWCA, he is relatively calm. It’s only when he starts to realise that something is amiss that he starts to go a bit crazy.
