shareYes. The way his "apology" for beating her plays out the idea that he's sexually abusive. He didn't give her any time or space after he came back, picked out a dress HE wanted her to wear, and you can clear she's pretending to show approval at the flowers, the dress, and while he's on top of her, and he walked away suddenly without a word.
All of this is evidence that he wasn't really interested in smashing with her and was mostly testing her to see if she would continue to submit to his demands. I have no doubt he had a routine testing her over perceived and trivial errors she made.
