I understand your reasoning but I’m going to stick with mine. Daniel is in a relationship Pwinty. Daniel isn’t ready for Pwinty to leave the relationship just yet, so Daniel is going to be deter gossip about Pwinty. It’s not to protect self but stop Pwinty’s nagging about it being Daniel’s fault. If you were Pwinty and you didn’t want strangers discussing who you are, you’re going to pressure yourself partner to make it stop. The more content is created about Daniel even though Pwinty is always entwined in the discussion, less is on Pwinty’s page. If posters go to Pwinty’s page and there are no new threads, it’ll die down.
