Britain, and the Soviet Union, were on the side of Nigeria from which Biafra broke away from. Mostly due to the fact that, before the North Sea oil, that was where they got a good chunk of their oil. The civil war was bloody with Britain quietly supplying weapons to Nigeria even when Biafra was surrounded and under siege. All supplies were cut off and Western doctors and relief crews could be attacked and killed by Nigeria at any time. 3 to 4 million Biafrans died of starvation and neglect by the time the war ended in Nigeria's victory. Not exactly a shining moment for Britain. Not all of them. The Swedish-Danish-Norwegian mechanized battalion (Nordbat 2) did its job and if the UN's rules got in the way of things they either bent them or broke them. When the UN commanders complained, the Nordbat commander said that he was obey HIS commanders back in Sweden. The Serbs tried to ambush a a tank unit and the tanks fired back with their 120mm gun and blew the positions apart. The commander himself got the Serbs to clear anti-tank mines from a road by threatening to machine the Serbs if they didn't do it. I liked Fiona. Especially the episode where Mrs Fleming set her up with a dating company. Fi goes on the date but is in for a surprise when she meets them. The next day she tells Mrs Fleming: "Daniel was Danièle. You set me up with a girl!" The reply was classic. "Are you sure?" The actress playing Fi had a beautiful 'Are you serious?!' on her face. A son. And a husband for that matter. Any information other than that is classified. View all replies >
