Biafra ‘hoopla’

Can anybody remember or comment on the UK’s reaction to the situation in Biafra in the late 1960s? They mention it in the 2023 Christmas special.

reply

Britain, and the Soviet Union, were on the side of Nigeria from which Biafra broke away from. Mostly due to the fact that, before the North Sea oil, that was where they got a good chunk of their oil. The civil war was bloody with Britain quietly supplying weapons to Nigeria even when Biafra was surrounded and under siege. All supplies were cut off and Western doctors and relief crews could be attacked and killed by Nigeria at any time. 3 to 4 million Biafrans died of starvation and neglect by the time the war ended in Nigeria's victory.

Not exactly a shining moment for Britain.
