It has never been explained what the hell IS the black gloo (and It was really not necessary to the Alien lore, really), so It can be anything 🤷
Precisely the first scene of Prometheus shows that the Engineers mixed the black gloo ( which never IS explained what the hell IS, because of the damn Damon Lindelof) with their own DNA To create the human race.
In any case Prometheus IS an abortion of film, Romulus tries to make sense of that disaster and does It pretty well.
Of course, xenomorphs were born because an Engineer was infected by a mollusk product of a pregnant woman infected by the black gloo, very logic and not convoluted at all 👌
And what about the zombie with the Big head? And the scientists Who are afraid of some fossils but seconds after touch a eel made of Black gloo like if It is a cute cat?
It's amazing you try to defend a film that looks like a Troma production made with 100 millions budget. Romulus takes its ideas (Engineer, black gloo) and makes them good with a fantastic horror atmosphere.
Ok, let's review the movie: if you touch the Engineers' black liquid it turns into an eel that strangles you, if you drink it you turn into a big-headed zombie, if you fuck infected with it you get the woman pregnant with a mollusk that turns into a giant in two hours and then infects an Engineer (who wants to destroy the Earth for reasons not explained, by the way) with a xenomorph, take that!
Not to mention the schizophrenic tone or the characters, who are supposed to be very well-educated scientists but behave like retarded teenagers from a bad 90s slasher (smoking joints inside the astronaut suit!).
One of the biggest Hollywood disasters ever.

The whole movie, I don't even know where to start. Even Ridley had to make Covenant like a sort of apology for It, his worst film ever.
It's impossible to be consistent with something that didn't have sense/consistency in the first place.
That's your subjectif opinión, for me this creature IS infinitely more terryfing that the Pulp creature from Resurrection.
And everything that happened in Prometheus is lame, it's absurd trying to make sense of It, but this film extracts the only good possible sense of It (a gloo that mutantes and changes DNA).
I Guess they did reverse engineering with the dead xenomorph to extract the Black gloo, and in the process they made the facehuggers.So the xenomorphs are just a subproduct of its real purpose.
There is also a new creature in Romulus, you forget It? And much more terryfing and interesting that the only new variation that appeared in Covenant.

It is, but well done. The Alien saga doesn't have a great quality overall, aside of the first two films, so making a good horror film merging the lores of all the movies (including Prometheus, an apparently impossible task) has a lot of merit.

You are right, all the sub sagas of Halloween have internal logic except the H20, which is shitty and it really doesn't have anything to add to Myers and his lore...

Why you say this bullshit? For once this film isn't woke.
It's a Big world, we hadn't seen enough of It. For m IS perfect, It fits with the depressive futuristic style of both the original and Blade Runner.
Alien Romulus is well written, at least compared with the others three.
But It was an action movie, as a truly horror movie this is the BEST sequel made.
Please, Prometheus is a disaster 🤦
