I am a big fan of Lewis' writing for the most part; however, I share your view that I would rather see the characters getting along, as they used to, rather than creating conflict just to set the stage for the later Morse program.
My suggestion: the original Morse series starts in 1987. So keep Endeavour going for a few more years (say, into the ate '70s) and then finish it, so that there is a few years' gap between the two series. That way, Morse and Thursday could remain friends and those who wish to could just speculate about the reason for Fred's non-existence in the Morse series.
In Series 3 and beyond, the hotel is run by the blacksmith who disappeared after Series 1. After a mysterious inheritance, he bought the hotel and became a recluse, running the hotel from a secret underground bunker, with help from his new wife Nan. To clear up another unanswered question, the pub owner who disappeared after the first series moved away to establish a metal detecting club.
Agree that the Candloford folk are more interesting. And what's the deal with Robert "Killjoy" Timmins? The man seems to rain on everyone's parade at every opportunity.
Absolutely. I would watch an entire series of a bedridden Claymore causing trouble at Gull Cottage. Please make the Youtube video you described. But please don't put a cat in it. What's the deal with cats in these videos?
