"But suspect that since Terry specifically wanted Barnes to beat on Daniel, he may have used his influence to arrange that." This logic is not consistent with the film. Terry specifically states one of his core values is "fair play". If that is true then it should be seen as a goof in the screen play. "I can assure you that while rare there are people who have started college when they are 17, especially at that time when the age to start school was in flux." No doubt, there have been people who started college at 10 years of age. However, Daniel is not intelligent enough to one of those students. It is possible that his behavior was a facade to maintain his alpha status. Unlike the Beast, we never saw Gaston alone contemplating his place in life. He could have been very sad and lonely, but was too afraid to show it to other people due to societal expectations of the time. So, in that way, his character is tragic because he was really alone in a metaphoric way. Both Daniel and Chozen are trained in Miyagi-Do Karate. Therefore they are actually quite evenly matched. They know the counters to each other's moves. This is why the crane kick did not work on Chozen. He probably took countless crane kicks to the face by Sato until he could defend the move on a consistent basis. Barne's style is different and since he only represented Cobra Kai, his style of Karate was unfamiliar to Daniel. My apologies, I wasn't discussing Barnes, but I'll answer them here. "Where is it stated that Mike Barnes is in high school?" The film never states this because it is implied that if he is competing in an under 18 All-Valley tournament that he must be in high school. "If Mike Barnes is under 18, then why is he travelling alone to California to negotiate a business deal with Terry Silver when people under the age of 18 lack the capacity to make a contract?" It can be assumed that Barnes had parental consent otherwise it would not be legal. In California you can't get your driver's license until you are 18 if you never participated in drivers ed. or drivers training, or at least that is how it was back then. Daniel never mentioned taking such classes, so he probably had to wait until he turned 18. If this is true, he should be stripped of his first title as well. It is possible due to Daniel's youthful appearance and immaturity that he was assumed to be under 18. The officials at the tournament didn't seem to have the resources to verify such information and went by the honor system. They never verified his black belt either and if they had, it would have not been good for Daniel. Daniel is over 18 (due to the fact he was supposed to be in college) and it is assumed Mike Barnes is still in high school, since there is no evidence to the contrary. Therefore when Daniel "won" at the end of the movie, he is in fact a grown man celebrating a combat victory against a child. Absolutely. It is rather telling that the rules were reverted back to their original state. I wouldn't and neither would most people. However, we are forgetting that Daniel is a petty and vindictive person. Both traits of which are inarguably demonstrated all the way from the time Daniel blatantly told Mr. Miyagi that his first reason for karate training was revenge, and all the way to the final episode in season 2 of Cobra Kai when he broke and entered into Johnny's apartment. All that after Johnny provided a safe place for Samantha to stay until the effects of alcohol wore off. Proof that Johnny's offspring is more respectful of the negative aspects of underage drinking than is Daniel's. But I digress. Yes, this person would absolutely care if his tournament got stripped. In fact he would probably jeopardize his own marriage just to get the title reinstated. "Why would the people who invited him to take part strip him of his title?" Perhaps someone on the governing board wants to bring the integrity of the All-Valley back because the current leader just doesn't know what karate is all about. This is my guess. 1. Hiring professional stage actors for an animated musical is better because they already can sing competently so there is no need to hire a singer in addition to the actor. 2. Stars are expensive so budgets would have to be cut from the film which will compromise the film as a whole. 3. Disney animated films in the past didn't focus on hiring famous actors. They were just maintaining tradition. Personally I feel like the quality of animated Disney films went downhill fast when they started using famous celebrities as voice actors. The exception have been the Pixar films because they managed to maintain focus on story quality above all else. It wasn't a very smart line considering 2 out of 3 Star Wars films came out in the 80's. Don't forget about the part when Daniel asks Mr. Miyagi to show him sweeps. While Miyagi is looking for the broom, Daniel no doubt misplaced, Daniel explains to Jessica how this guy (Terry Silver) told him tournament guys are suckers for front sweeps and she just looks at him with a bewildered look. That is because she was jogging with Daniel when Terry told him about the front sweeps. It was established early in the film that Gaston respects Belle and Maurice when he scolded LeFou for making fun of his mental health. Years before the SJW movement, Gaston said to Lefou "don't talk about her father that way." Snake. He already built a reputation in Los Angeles and taught Mike Barnes how to be bad. Just think about it, Snake is the guy who teaches Karate's bad boy a thing or two about being bad. Everything Mike does to Daniel was no doubt Snake's idea. Snake already has skills in verbal motivation, the ability to scrutinize the authenticity of signed legal documents, and gaining the upper hand in negotiations, as demonstrated when he asked for the bonsai tree. Snake is smart enough to pretend to be a terrible fighter so Daniel overestimates his abilities when it is time to fight Mike. Chozen fought with Miyago-Do karate, so the crane kick was something he would have been familiar with. It is a good idea. The Beast was just like Gaston before his transformation. The Beast does worse things than Gaston throughout the film, the only difference is that Belle gives the Beast a chance and doesn't try to have a civil conversation with Gaston. Belle actually is condescending to Gaston most of the time. You also have to remember that Gaston was best friends with the town loser. Nobody gave Lefou the time of day or respect that Gaston gave him. Additionally, the story is told from Belle and The Beast perspective, so on the surface it would appear that Gaston is bad, but he is really good!
