Nope. Saw it once on DVD. Don't plan on watching it again.
Richard Jenkins is shown going to live a depressing life with no redemption. Black kid goes to work at a library and starts writing again and is redeemed.
The End.
Don't watch it if you are only planning on seeing it for him. He's only in it for like 15-20 minutes at most, although he's good when he's on screen. Other than that it's a horrible B-movie.
I thought it was horrible. I enjoyed Rosewater but I guess Jon got lucky with that one because the direction here was flat and lifeless. Steve Carrell sleptwalk his way through this role and looked like he only showed up as a favor to Jon. The satrical elements have been done before and so much better in other political comedies. Everything about this film just felt flat and dull and frankly out of touch. Not hard to see why Universal was so quick to dump it on VOD.
No more sequels. The second one was Bad. I never saw the third but I heard it was even worse.
I gave it a 4/10.
It certainly isn't as bad as some other faith based movies and has good performances, but from a directing and production stand point it's not very good. It's a shame too because this is a topic that certainly doesn't get explored a lot in film. I honestly just found the film to be pretty boring aside from a couple of scenes. It's not the horrible film some people are making it out to be just because they are anti-Christian though.
No. It's even worse than Dark Phoenix. Horrible acting and story. Feels rushed and cheap. CGI is some of the worst I've seen in a theatrical release in a long time.
I saw it back when it came out and thought it was great too! Great animation and spin on a Christmas flick. Also much better written than most of your average kids animated films. Might finally give this one a revist this year.
Agreed. Almost wish it had been a mini series to flesh all of that stuff out. So much potential and doesn't feel like the kind of movie that would get a sequel either.
I was 10 and in fourth grade. I remember everybody went to see it. I didn't see it until about a year or two after it was out.
I saw it a couple weeks ago. It's far from his worst action flick, but it's super forgettable. Decent action, but really poor and predictable writing. If you have something like AMC-A list than I would see it, otherwise just wait to rent it. I gave it a 5/10.
