Slightly off-topic (I haven't read it, but want to!) - your library probably offers an InterLibrary Loan service, where they can get the book for you from another library - and it's often free! Ask your local library if that's an option. :)
Oh, I think it's definitely the role. She has almost Aspergers(ish) qualities - laser focus, and little time or patience for anything else. I think this is what drives her to be so good at what she does. Also, keep in mind that she must have commitment/abandonment issues, not allowing anyone to get too close. I think the role is brilliant, and damn she is a talented actress.
