It's been a long time since I saw the film. But one trick would be to film the scene in reverse. I.e., start with the girl and the car touching, then slowly move the car backwards. Then reverse the film and speed it up.

As I recall, she was still facing legal proceedings. The information provided by Lieberman would help her attorney defend her. She probably wouldn't have avoided punishment, but it might have reduced her time in prison.
