I thought the film was too slow in the last part. It just dragged on endlessly. But it had many good parts. And yes, it was quite confusing to determine which side was winning at times. Agreed. The movie was unfocused and it was hard to care about any of the characters. Agreed. I thought it was entertaining but became too generic and predictable later on. Yes, without the subtitles, the movie is much less enjoyable. However, you can download the subtitles if you search for them. Truly impressive. I've never thought much about him because he's best known for movies like Grease and Saturday Night Fever and those are just not type of movies (not my era). But this movie really makes me view him in a different light. I hope he has at least a good decade to enjoy his golden years. He's one of my favorites. I just watched "Total Recall" for the first time. WHAT A LEGEND!! My favorite action movie star by a wide margin. Well I'm not disputing that Bullitt was an influential movie. But TFC just executed better on those concepts. Including the car chase, imho. I have to agree. I think The French Connection, for example, is significantly better. The car chase scene was not bad, but was underwhelming. But of course, this movie's car chase scene set the new standard, so it was improved upon. SPOT ON! This movie had an incredible car chase scene, but other than that, it was hard to relate to the characters. That sounds like quite an experience! I have little experience with projectors other than an ancient one I watched cartoons on when I was a child. Sure, but I'd argue that being able to watch it in incredibly good A/V quality in present day makes it much more cinematic and epic than watching it on VHS on a 90s TV back in the day. I made it about 20 minutes into the movie. I only started watching it because of the Golden Globes win, but it was too "genre-bending" (OMG!!) and wacky for me. Not my type of movie. Agreed 100%. A very touching movie. This was a very touching movie. Frankie Corio did an amazing job in this debut role. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I saw it a few weeks after it came out. I must say, it was quite an experience - visually. It was, at the time, the most impressive 3D movie I've seen. But the plot and the characters were formulaic. I just re-watched it today after all these years and I had the exact same impression - visually impressive, but not that interesting. This movie was incredible - as an action movie. Which is really what it was. I watched this in 4k and can't recommend enough to watch it in the best AV setup possible. I have to partially agree with OP. Some parts of this movie are truly boring and antiquated. But there are some incredible scenes. I'd say the first half of the movie is much stronger than the second half. Overall, I'm very glad I watched this, but it really doesn't feel like a Kubrick movie. I was very impressed by this one. It's clear how Guillermo del Toro was inspired by it. Well, then I'm happy to have seen the 3 hour version. Seems to be a nice sweet spot.
