It's in reference to Brock Turner who committed sexual assault and was convicted. However, despite this, he was still referred to as a "promising young man".

Every episode I watch makes me hate the show a little more (I'm at episode 7 now). It's exactly the same vibes I got from Schitt's Creek which I dumped ¾ way through Season 2. Before anyone flames me, you're welcome to enjoy the show. God knows it has a devoted following. It's just not for me.
