Do you make this same post to all of Guy Ritchie's films?
fixed it. I guess it just *seems* like I've been watching the show that long! :^DDD
Agreed. It's been many years since I read it but if I recall correctly Terminus was already a settled, modern planet when they were exiled there. And you're right on about FTL travel. Basically just using the name for some buzz and otherwise a totally new story and characters.
Of course there are gay people everywhere but half the cast ticking some aggrieved, under-represented box? That's not under-representation. Half the population in America, never mind small towns anywhere, is not BIPOC, gay, or an amputee.
OP is about as liberal and progressive as one can get. He just believes in realistic portrayals in his media. Toxic wokeness is why Democrats and progressive lose elections and why Trump stands a reasonable chance of getting elected in 2024. Independents and middle of the road folks get turned off when obviously unrealistic stuff like this gets crammed down their throats.
Whaddaya kidding me? Native American police chief, "differently-abled" dispatcher, gay shop owner, I half expected the young broke girl in the bar to be Harrison who had transitioned! And let's remember ALL these people are ALL friends and ALL life in the same SMALL town in upstate New York???? Also having the over-the-top rich kid kill the deer is incredibly lazy story-telling. The baddies used to be developed over a few episodes not this easy, go-to BS. This is movie-of-the-week crap, not classic Dexter.
Still think they're going to tie together/wrap up after watching the whole season??? Soooo many random things (e.g. see the other post about Lexis' tail - introduced, then completely dropped with on explanation either way). [yoda voice] Strong with this one, the "Lost" is. [/yoda voice]
Actually something close to that is in there.
Also don't know why they didn't include Chani's line: "Tell me of your home world, Usul" in his visions. That was very central in the books.
Nor did they include the Shadout Mapes' line about owing Paul a "water debt" for saving her from the hunter-killer which was pretty integral to the plot.
OK, we get it, you hate Baldwin and will construct all manner of straw-man arguments to bolster your hate. Thanks. <set to "ignore">
I thought that among adapted SF books, this was among the truest to the source material (other than the gender-swapping of Liet-Keynes which is seriously problematic regarding revelations to come). I am concerned that those who haven’t read the books will find that the characters lack development and clear motivation. There’s a lot of back-story and sub-plots that just don’t transfer to film easily or well. Overall I thought the casting and acting were done well and overall it’s in a whole different league from Lynch’s version (which even he hates). CGI and cinematography were great. I hope the sequel(s) get made.
You’re correct about the rules of gun safety in the real world. The movies aren’t the real world; at some point in movies and stage productions, it’s going to be necessary to point, ideally a prop, gun at a person to further the narrative. That’s why the armorer’s and set safety person’s job is so essential. TBF, I HOPE that if I was an actor handling real or prop guns that I would follow Rule #1, but also at some point, I assume this becomes routine and you expect that other people have done their job. Complacency kills.
Actually I pretty rarely post here, so no. Also I don't think I've ever posted about "flipping" characters before, so no there too. It's possible to agree with the objections to it for my own reasons rather than those of the racist, mysoginist trolls here you know.
Ah, you forgot the sarcasm font. :) I'm in no way against diversity in entertainment, but I also believe in honoring an author/creator's intent. If you want something different, create something different, don't take someone else's work and put your spin on it.
Couldn't agree more. They're taking minor parts of the book(s) and blowing them up to be the whole thing while taking the central aspect, psychohistory, and fobbing it off as some bit part. And I NEVER had the sense from the books that Terminus was some totally barren rock as it's depicted.
"Past results are no guarantee of future performance" I assume you've seen "Jupiter Ascending" for example. :D
Which is why he made that so clear in the novels???? Um OK. You got a reference?
As I said in a different thread, this just has the appearance of doing random sh!t for no particular reason other than to just appear clever or complex.
Well that remains to be seen. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but I doubt that's going to happen. Right now, it seems an awful lot like Lost since you bring that up.
Ummm… because the new season is AWFUL! Just the same. oold. “stuff” over and over and over again. Advance the plot already!
Couldn’t agree more. Most of the main action so far has been like a bad Rambo flick with totally unbelievable plot and characters. And can we please PLEASE dispense with Arturo and Gandia already??? They’ve had more brushes with and unbelievable escapes from death than the entire Bond franchise. Two of the most annoying characters in the history of all media (especially Arturo). That’d be a great way to raise money for a charity or something; auction off the chance to guest “star” on the show to blow Arturo away!
