I agree entirely, I always thought Joyce was a character with hidden depths.
Could be because Barbnaby liked to do his own thing and was willing to overlook Troy's driving skills (or lack of!) because Troy fitted in - better the devil you know etc!
Yes Tom Barnaby and Jones is the "classic" and best Midsomers duo for me. Jones always seemed to enjoy living in Midsomer. That episode where he danced with Cully at a local dance is a favourite episode of mine.
They can't be that "untalented": two of them are writers! It's fiction, based on reality: their good and bad points are therefore exaggerated!
Thanks for your reply, I suppose the "years ago" could refer to before he was married, I don't know whether the dates would add up. Anyway, it's fun to make up our own backstories sometimes!
OK, let me know what you think...
I suppose as the book was written from the childhood memories of Gerald Durrell, it is possible they had an affair (we can dream) as he would not know all the details of what the adults did in private...
Jones.
Yes I have definitely noticed it, there have been a couple of redheads who Barnaby seems to have had more than a bit of an interest in... I have the pet theory that underneath he finds Joyce not passionate enough. Though I suspect she would be, if Barnaby had more time for her. That said, they do seem to get closer as the series goes on. Or perhaps I am reading too much into all of it...
