Despite what she said earlier, Margo graps a hold of the branch (her life) and doesn't float gravitationless into space after all. My idea is that Tallulah somehow made her realise that her life, despite all her past and present obstacles, is worth holding on to!
Complete and utter nonsense that this was never explained!!!
For me, this leads to believe the ending is open and it is what YOU decide it should be. For me, James is rescued by the American military while Danielle remerges from the deep sea, leading to them meeting again in Nairobi (as agreed earlier).
I agree with peterkneter77 about Hail Cesar. This movie however, contains several absurdities that makes it so well worth watching, for example, almost all citizens of Suburbicon focus on the presence of the African American family and no-one seems to care about the fact that several psychopaths roam the area!
They thought about it long and hard, but they needed something that Nathan could "drop", so that Caleb could alter the lock down procedure.
