what was that??? It didn't make any sense to me. This movie left so much unanswered. I get its left up to our interpretation, but i actually doubled checked to see if this was a mini series and surely there was more to tell, but nope. This movie was going really well, but that ending killed it for me.
shareEarlier in the movie she mentioned that she would just float off into space. At the end, she decided to grab onto a tree. I took this to mean Tallulah helped her realize she had a reason to stay (plus her son came back). Just showing the audience Tallulah had a positive impact on her. That is how I took it anyway. I'm sure there are other meanings.

shareThe first foreshadowing was Tallulahs nightmare at the beginning, where she clung to the van to keep from floating away.
Then later in the park, Lu shared with Margo her idea that gravity could cease to exist, jst under her. She said she would grab on to a tree to stay connected to the earth. Margo said she wouldn't grab anything. She would just go. This is evidence of her disconnectedness from life. She has nothing to latch on to and no reason to feel connected yo life.
At the end, in kind of a symbolic daydream, she does float up, but she grabs the tree. She has found a reason to anchor on to life.
Pretty straightforward, really.

shareIt leaves too much room for interpretation. There was a lot of talk about death in the movie and it looked like she died. The audience stayed with the movie to the end so they deserve a decent ending.

i interpreted it meaning as we never really mean what we say, we can always change our mind or come to a realization. she said she would just float of into space, but after tallulah's impact on her life, she changed her mind, and also how the mother said that before her daughter went missing, she hoped she would go missing numerous times, but she then realized that she never really meant that after it did happen.

And change the conversation with Tallulah to reflect this, her saying "she'd never let go" while Tal would, because she wants to be free.
This works in several ways. For one, it shows how Margo can now be free, inspired by Tallulah. But importantly, it can show how she is finally able to let go of her failed marriage after all these years.
I feel like this would have worked so much better on so many levels.
Despite what she said earlier, Margo graps a hold of the branch (her life) and doesn't float gravitationless into space after all. My idea is that Tallulah somehow made her realise that her life, despite all her past and present obstacles, is worth holding on to!
