In case you are anywhere near Bath in a month's time :-)

Love the Shakespeare reference! (Im rehearsing for a Henry VI all-three-parts-mash-up at the moment as it is, and Richard III features prominently of course!)
Yeah _ Shakespeare's plots are full of holes, granted!
and all because with knowledge of exactly what was on it already, he just casually tossed it into a key bowl, where anybody could just pick it up ( which is of course what happened...). It would just NEVER happen
- I just don't buy that.
"for the most part the characters are presented as realistic... "
That's where I'd have to respectfully disagree. I didn't find vicar and wife to be at all realistic. True I've no experience of locking a woman in my cellar following a misunderstanding, but if i ever did the thought that I would find my wife going along with the situation a total non starter.
maybe I'm the only person in the UK that doesn't think this is all "normal" ;-)
"The USB contents could have easily been explained away 'it's not mine ; it's not my son's ; I have an oath to keep ; call the cops if you want, and I will explain to them - but not to you". You know - like a normal person."
This. 100%.
Which of course, not happening, leads not only to the entirely ridiculous cellar thing, but also the other ostensibly sane adult (wife) just accepting the new status quo in their lives. yeah right...
The lady doth protest too much, methinks
ah!
I found out why now!
The ending is what the reality is still.
1917/1923 Ireland still has repercussions today in 2022.

let us know what you thought of it when you manage to see it.
I didn't grow up in Belfast in 1969 (in kent instead!) so Im trusting Branagh on this :-) There are clear indications in the opening scenes that it is a mixed street and its only Cathloic homes that are initially targeted (although the non violent protestants are still sh1t scared!)
And yes you are correct about unionist/protestant on unionist/protestant - its why eventually the ending is what it is.
No problem :-)
Both excellent, but Hinds was sublimely brilliant.
Dench got the moment of the film though right at the end.
The film isn’t about the IRA. It’s about Northern Irish Protestant violence against Northern Irish Catholics.
I think that was the point of its use In the film. Several times in the film mention was made that things were changing. Pops was a guy living in a time that was fast disappearing … maybe lived a lifestyle that wasn’t overly healthy… doing of bronchial issues eventually
The whole depiction was so reminiscent of the grainy b&w tv news footage of the time. I was 7 when the troubles started, almost Buddy’s age (he was ten maybe?).
Why would have been normal in Britain in 1969.
No. The street was mixed Protestant and catholic. The street was attacked by Protestants who attacked only Catholic houses.
It was to protect the catholic minority that Wilson sent troops in. Which ended up backfiring.
Not quite. The guy that was after buddy’s dad was a Protestant. The film depicts the start of the troubles when some sections of the Protestant community were attacking Catholics .
Wilson (PM) sent the army in to “police” and support/protect the Catholic minority, a move that ultimately backfired.
I wasnt but your 2p is well spent.
Blimey. If you think this was slow never ever watch scent of green papaya.
Ir even on the beach... this was OTB with huge amounts of zap pow whizz!
Sick one = pregnant one .
But agree.. odd choice etc
