Yes, it's funny how some like to criticize the actors for being drunk or high, but if that's the case, then it actually lends itself to the "character study" of this film.
You nailed it. It amazes me that some of the complaints about this film are like not getting enough cotton candy and lollipops for the viewer. Or maybe not enough car chases and shootouts. It seems that some people simply cannot handle character study, and therefore if is a "bad" or "boring" film.
Yes, and speaking of the evolution of the human consciousness, you can go back a century earlier to find Americans shooting at herds of buffalo from rail cars, and then skinning them for their pelt, leaving the carcasses to rot.
Yes, i totally can relate to what you're saying. But remember that this film was shot just 15 years after they dropped atomic bombs on two cities, so the callousness of the politics at that time was not yet ready to accommodate animal lovers.
What about a mom and her little daughter living right next to the mine field?? I know that makes for some more drama, but does that seem real to you?
