Had two films in Nutcracker and Black Beauty that she was carrying as a lead and both didn't do to well. And slowly disappeared from acting since 2020.
Funnily enough going by her instagram that she's really got into horses and being a trainer/rider.
She's still only 23 but you see no mention of acting at all even in her bio. Maybe she's just knocked acting on the head.
What helps this show going forward seen as we never got that second season is it works as a mini series. Everything is wrapped up. That's why I always say people can easily watch it as a one off season show.
Damn shame too. One positive, At the very least it wraps itself up perfectly as a one off series. That's at least one thing going for it.
I feel if this was on HBO or Amazon, and got promoted heavily we could have got another season or two out of this. I don't know if it ever would have become a massive hit but a highly respected and well followed show for sure.
It's the type of show you'd expect at the very least to have a strong following like another Cinemax show Banshee. It's got the violence, sex, interesting storyline and characters like that show.
That's one I can see why some might not like Joni, the fact she still sleeps with Cliff after her fight with Mac. It's a low blow.
They do sort of redeem her by showing she's willing to stand by Mac even through all the shit she finds out about him.
I love the use of Otis Redding Blue record in episode 1. He first finds out Joni is cheating on him and then goes to kill the lover, and he hears the record being played, nice touch.
I think she feels immense guilt for what she did to Mac. I don't doubt she loves her husband and feels betrayed by him when he goes back for a 2nd tour of Vietnam. But the fact she cheats on him once he's back does leave you feeling a little less sympathetic towards Joni. I hate how her friend is all like have one more night with Cliff behind Mac's back. I don't think she loves Cliff over Mac but she does have feelings for him that's for sure but not enough to shop Mac in to the police for him.
I didn't think Joni would play a big massive part in the show. I thought we just see how Mac's life fall apart on him, to add final nail in the coffin he finds his beloved wife has cheated and fallen in love with someone else. And that Joni would play a smaller role in this, being a bit of bitch towards Mac to make us feel more for Mac.
I think Joni just felt lonely and betrayed, doesn't excuse her cheating on him. But I like that she's not some goody two shoes character, that's she's just as messed up as other characters in this.
The mother gets off way to easy by the end, just in the sense they are talking again like nothing happened. That would have been mentally scaring event for Laure/Michael something that can't be forgiven. They are pretty much exposed and outcasted by everyone bar Lisa. Maybe Celine Sciamma didn't want to end it on a sour note with the mother and her child. But I think it would have suited the film to have Laure be uneasy around their mother and not willing to open to her after what she's done to them. Something the mother will have to work on to regain her child's trust.
The mother sees it as tough love and not wanting to see her child be ridiculed and abused once everyone finds out they were born a girl. She means well but the way she goes about it is all wrong by making them wear the dress and outing them to all the kids and making their life worse once School begins.
Only part of the film I felt Sciamma chickened out not having a easy ending for.
Making Krista a bit more sympathetic. And showing that she actually likes Nadine and didn't mean to hurt her. Damn shame too cause Haley Lu Richardson is likeable presence on screen. And having a scene at the end with Nadine and Krista alone, and showing us maybe over time they can be friends again.
Agreed Darian being somewhere in the middle, he's slightly dickish but we see signs of him caring for Nadine.
It's called acting, Sennott also is straight but has played bi-sexual and Lesbian characters. I don't think cause you ain't Jewish that you'd shouldn't play Jewish. It's acting. Sure Polly Draper who played Danielle's mum isn't Jewish and she got the role down pat.
I think she felt jealous over Max's wife Kim, who had everything she wanted. She had three business, was beautiful and successful. Who was breadwinner of the family. So Max was paying Danielle with the money Kim earned. Danielle wanted to have something over Kim and that was having Max at her whim.
With Max as her sugar daddy, she felt she had power and felt wanted.Once she saw that being shattered she got jealous.
I don't think she's in love with him but she definitely has some feelings for him. But I think they fade away by the end when she finds out Maya wants her back and she's the person she always loved back in her life.
Jealously, the people she killed all got close to either her mother or her sister Camille and took the attention away from Amma. Like Mae, her last victim, the reason Amma kills her is cause Camille was nice to her and gave her attention when she talked about wanting to be a journalist. And Amma ain't having that, she needs Camille to have her attention on her.
No the mother was making her children ill (which led the death of one of them) so they could depend on her. Probably one of the reasons Adora dislikes Camille cause Camille was a free spirit and didn't give herself over to Adora like her two sisters did. Adora is one evil person and deserves prison time, and more then likely led to Amma turning out the way she did.
The husband was a total wimp and turned his eyes away from his wife's behavior. Jackie, Adora's friend and the person closet to Camille was the same too even though she had plenty of evidence on Adora's behavior. She turned a blind eye to it too cause Adora had so much power in the town they lived. Probably one of the reasons Jackie is so nice to Camille is that she feels guilty for doing so and wants to be seen as a kind person for Camille to rely on.
I thought this was half a great film. It loses it's way for me once it gets into the thriller side of the film. But I thought Stewart was good in it. That's the issue with her, is unlike Pattinson she doesn't steal the films she's in or does anything that different with her characters.
I thought "Spencer" was very good. I liked her in Happiest Season, but damn that Harper and her family were so dislikeable it just makes that film not fun to watch especially as it's a rom-com Christmas film and Harper doesn't deserve Abby in the end. Besides those two and I thought Love Lies Bleeding was actually one of her better films in recent times.
Post Twilight, I do rate "Still Alice", "Certain Women" and her two films Personal Shopper and Clouds of Sils Maria with Oliver Assayas.
A lot of her best work for me is is pre Twilight and during Twlight era. "Into The Wild", "Panic Room", "Undertow", "Adventureland", "The Runaways" and "Speak".
I don't think she's made a truly great film in a long time. I still think Into The Wild, Panic Room and Adventureland are her best films to date. With Speak probably her best performance.
The ending can make or break this film for some. The ending is really a bleak ending for Lou if you look at it.
At the end of the day, she's exactly where her sister Beth was. Way too loved up and stuck in a abusive relationship. At the end she has to clean up the mess of her girlfriend, who's also been abusive to her. While Jackie gets to sleep nicely. Also finds out that Beth didn't give two damns about her, Lou only stayed in that town cause of her.
Surreal stuff with Jackie turning into a giant, is just in Lou's mind. She wants Jackie to save her and be that hero. But in reality Jackie probably didn't do jack shit for her in that moment when it came down to Lou and her father. But Lou is so loved up, she'll never want to see the bad side of Jackie.
Basically she's stuck in a abusive relationship with a steroid abusing, spouse abusing, jealous murderous thug.
I'll always call out man bashing in films but The women characters aren't much better either to be fair in this film.
Lou is a murderer and criminal. She's stuck in the exact same place as her dumb sister Beth who moaned about not leaving her husband, an abusive relationship. So she's not much smarter then the men characters.
Jackie is a violent thug murderer, who's abusive to Lou (Jackie has been violent in the past) and is addicted to Steroids.
Daisy, uses blackmail agaisnt Lou to sleep with her.
Beth, is a bit of dumbass who really doesn't give a shit for her sister Lou after Lou over stays cause of her.
Agreed 100% that Pugh steals the film, although I really liked Saoirse in this more then you do. I thought the film was at it's very best when dealing with Laurie and Amy falling in love and when Pugh is adult Amy, her acting in those scenes is fantastic. Especially that scene in the park when she thinks Laurie is playing with her feelings and only accepting her cause Jo didn't. I like that she made her adult Amy far more likeable then past versions, where I feel Amy isn't given much.
Even Emma Waston is pretty good in this, I don't rate her much as a actress. Eliza Scanlen (check out Sharp Objects, her best performance to date imo) doesn't steal the film or anything but she puts a ton of heart into a role in a lesser actress hands could have faded into the background.
Timothee Chalamet is born to play roles like this. Probably delivered one of his better performances for me.
One thing I agree with and one I don't with casting of Amy. Florence Pugh is a fantastic actress, but agreed 100% they should have cast a younger actress in the role. Pugh isn't awful in that part of the film, she's very good but she looks her age. But disagree, I think Pugh delivers the best adult Amy put to screen. Actually think her scenes with Timothee Chalamet's Laurie are some of 2019's version strongest parts. The scene in the park, where Laurie tells her not to marry and the look of heartbreak in her face as she thinks Laurie is just accepting her cause Jo didn't is fantastic piece of acting.
I love 2019 version, still think it's by far Gerwig's best film.
It's a easy 1hr 40min watch, The whole cast is great especially love the scenes between Evan Rachel Wood and Gina Rodriquez, really sweet and kind of quirky. That's why I'm surprised someone did a thread on here saying the lesbian romance came out of nowhere. It was set up the moment Old Dolio and Melanie clock eyes with one another. And it's major chunk of the films third act. I kind of wish the film dealt more into the love story as for me it was strongest part of the film seen Old Dolio out of her element.
The film has some lulls here and there and it's 6.4 rating on IMDB is about right I feel.
I got to disagree.
It's pretty much set up that Old Dolio and Melanie have feelings for one another. It's not smashed over the audiences head, it's all little touches and the way Old Dolio gets flustered when Melanie dresses sexy and Melanie is always staring at Old Dolio. I think it's set up that Melanie is Old Dolio escape from her family life and finding herself and love for the first time.
Definitely in last 40 minutes of the film the romance is front and center of the film.
In the end, he's gets the ending he deserves. Martin, totally disowns him and will divorce him. Agathe, aborts their child cause she can't bear to have Tomas in her life and she dumps him. He gets his comeuppance and ends up alone. But really will he change, for sure he won't. He'll find another Martin and Agathe down the road.
Honestly I can see why some people don't like this film just cause how awful a person Tomas is. But I find him so interesting, maybe cause Franz Rogowski is so charismatic that you can help to watch him be a total arrogant, pretentious diva who doesn't give a damn about anyone's feelings but his own. He doesn't care for either Martin or Agathe, they are merely just puppets in his game. And it takes until the end for them to finally see him for what he is.
I don't like Tomas but I can't help but watch his car crash of a life.
100% agree with you on Jax and It was 100% consensual on her part.
It's interesting with Jackie, that what she looked down on Paul about is what he ended up doing. Being worldly, and going onto bigger and better things. She just ended up as mum of 2, with broken string of relationships and in a town and job she doesn't like. Holding onto that one relationship where she was a equal. As a teenager, she was other worldly presence for Paul, but as a adult now she's nervous and small around him. That he just outgrew her, it's heartbreaking in a way. She holds onto these little moments between them as teens but he barely remembers them, and she looks totally broken. She's still upset he never wrote and sent for her even. The moment she finds he's more interested in hanging with Celia then her, she knew it was over.
I think Paul cares deep down for her though.
My opinion on Jackie.
I never felt Paul was as in love with Jackie as she was with him, he liked her but she wasn't ever going to the one. The moment he mentioned he couldn't give her all of himself, she knew he was always going to leave her behind. I always felt that she had a crush on Paul's dad so it didn't take much pushing for her to sleep with him, and along with giving Paul the middle finger too. So she got the best of both worlds. She was a dumb teenager.
I have issues with Jackie stuff in the film, mostly it doesn't seem to be any anger or uneasiness from Paul around Jackie for betraying him that badly by sleeping with his bloody father. It doesn't seem like that would be the case in real life. Although it might be true what Andrew said, that he held that memory of his father sleeping with Jackie down so low that he's really just chose to ignore it happened.
I did like the stuff of Jackie trying to relive her youthful romance with Paul. Heartbreaking seen stuff she holds dear to her heart about their relationship and Paul not remembering pretty much anything from that time. The scene when he doesn't remember their fake band name and look of disappointment in her face, it does break your heart. Paul's never rude towards her or dismissive, he's caring towards her in pub scene and at the end. I think he doesn't sexually see anything with her.
