"Burnt Offerings" (1976) - Lee Montgomery, Oliver Reed "It Happened at Lakewood Manor" aka "Ants" - Moosie Drier Hi folks - I'd like to add this one to the list: "The Believers" - not too much blood and gore but the movie has a really eerie feeling... and it's really interesting how they made the "tension level" rise, step by step, until it came to the "final showdown". It was also quite a good idea to explain some things of the past by inserting some sort of a flashback which explained much of the things that happened in the movie. (Many horror movies have the big fault that they "explain" basically nothing. The monster is just there, no one tells us from where it came; or someboy is possessed by a demon, throughout the whole movie, but it is not explained how it happened to come to this, etc. ..."The Believers" at least gives us some bits of info about the past events... Several of the adult actors gave pretty good performances - but Harley Cross was brilliant. (To be honest, I bought this movie rather for Harley Cross and not for the story - I've specialized a bit on collecting movies with boy actors, over the years - but it was a nice surprise to find that this is a really good movie, too ;-) Kind regards Andreas (123all4me) Hello MikeCable, indeed he's not the only former child actor whose life "went downhill"... I knew before that he had problems but I was really shocked when I read the news about his last offence (the lamentable incident at Sechelt, 2016); nevertheless he was "lucky" in so far as he received a very "mild" sentence: 2 years less one day; participation in an anti-drug program, some years of probation. AND it was good luck for him that he committed the crime on the Canadian side of the border! In the U.S. I'm sure he would have received a MUCH longer term. In late August of this year I think he will have completed his sentence, and I really PRAY that this was the last time he got in trouble! (But I guess it's important that he never gets in contact to some "false friends" who had negative influence upon him. Otherwise he'll get in trouble soon again.) I LOVED his performance in "Flight of the Navigator"! :-) And I do not and will not believe that he's a thoroughly mean person. Just had to do with too many bad people, over the years. Kind regards Andreas (123all4me) Hello russfro, wasn't there a scene filmed in a barn (or rather, a grain silo) in "Witness" (starring lukas Haas), where one of the "bad guys" suffocated in the grain? - But it's too long ago I have watched the movie to describe the scene properly. The REAL movie experts 'round here will of course know what I mean... Kind regards Andreas (123all4me) P.S.: I'm SO glad finally having found this site - when IMDB closed (and deleted!) all of their discussion boards, early in last year, it felt like falling into some sort of black hole. Had they at least kept the postings accessible (for reading only)...
