Antress reached the lighthouse and faced the alien inside the hole. Because of her stubborn and shortsighted view about "alien will take over the world", the alien literally took away her eyesight and kept her there, to studied the female object closely. When Lena arrived, they gave Antress's eyes back, so that she could say last words to Lena. Then as she expected and/or wished for, disintegrated her into light cells and merged with their's. After returned, Lena wasn't sure whether they should consider Antress dead or not. Maybe it was Antress's spirit inside Lena's duplicate who agreed to burn the lighthouse and ended the Shimmer. This Kane is a mirror of the real Kane, so of course he knew what she had done. When he returned home, we saw his cold response to Lena's warm welcome. When she wanted some explanation, a bit anger hidden in his reply "Does it matter?". And in the end, only after he knew this Lena is not the Lena, he stood up and hugged her initiatively. I don't think the whole thing is a "Master Mind" of the alien intelligence. Their plan A, sending mirror Kane back to Lena, had failed and so "Kane" was disposed right after Lena realized he was not the real Kane. More likely, the alien changed their plan after her mirror stopped Lena leaving the light house. We might think "Destroying the Shimmer" is a thought that Lena put into her mirror's mind, but maybe it is a thought that the alien put into Lena's mind first. Agreed. aliens would turn them into mutant alligator sharks. You can't guard the perimeter without the spotlight. You can't fall asleep with the spotlight on.
