I don't think the film was a success in 1980. At least in the US. It's only years later it became considered a classic. The Demon seemed more aggressive to me. It's just that he was acting by proxy. He used the Gemini killer and the Gemini was able to temporarily possess elderly patients. Overall, I think he was much more active. Finally, a sensible use for drugs. It's just part of the dress design. This has already been pointed out numerous times. I liked him. All the cast were great. Just watched it again. I always enjoy it. Kubrick intended a mostly visual story. A contemplative one. He wanted the viewer to wonder. Jan Harlan calls it a story about the unknowable. You're right. Reading the novel shouldn't be required. Clark's book isn't a novelization. It's his own version of the story. Which novel? I'll try to track those down. Thank you. I see. Thanks for sharing. Edit: BTW, what is the best Bio you've read? But Clint didn't direct it, so how could the cheapness be blamed on him? What about The Whole bloody affair? I like them both. It's all one story. 1978 version by far. Much more likable characters. "Notorious always get singled out as his best 40s films" I haven't seen that one. I'll give it a try. "one about "everyday people"(like Psycho to come)" I've never been crazy about psycho (OG). I just started watching the franchise again and it's entertaining. I know the sequels are pretty silly but I still enjoy them. "leaving Shadow of a Doubt from back in 1943 for a bit" I saw Shadow of a Doubt for the first time about a year ago. It's my favorite at this point. Your threads are great reading. Thank you. Yeah, no prob. I was confused about this for years. I remember at the old IMDB this topic would come up often. I think it is pretty hard to tell unless you really examine it closely. "Are you saying that the ship they flew down with was that huge? That it had an escape shuttle? Always thought the shuttle was on the refinery ship." Yes, the lifeboats are on the underside of the Nostromo. The shot you see of Dallas is in the Nostromo sitting on the moon LV-426. Did you notice all the smoke/mist? https://avp.fandom.com/wiki/Narcissus The Nostromo is what you see detach from the refinery. Then it descends to the surface of the moon Acheron (LV-426).
