I stand corrected - George A. Romero does mention water! But only once! It is in the scene where they are travelling from the small countryside airfield to the mall. Francine says: "We don't have food , We don't have water , We don't even have a radio" I'm so happy that this line exists in the us theatrical version because it would've been a major blunder if nobody mentions water during the entire movie.

That was beautifully put. I agree with you. The fact that Deckard can feel pain in the original movie and all the replicants he is after are immune to pain really confirmed it to me.
