Those are good movies, too. I must say, however, that Some Like it Hot, has a rather sadistic ending to it. Oh, boy! West Side Story is my all time favorite movie...hands down! When it's not playing here in the Boston, MA area, I've even made special road trips to the opposite end of the state, or to neighboring states, to see it. West Side Story, as a movie, always feels fresh and new to me, like I'm seeing it for the first time, and I never get tired of seeing it over and over again. The MGM quote "Unlike other classics, West Side Story grows younger." is SO true! There wasn't such a small world as there is now. If various conflicts around the globe are any indication, religious beliefs, such as belief in a god or goddess, can be extremely dangerous, especially if they're carried too far. Unfortunately, however, that's all too often the case, and it's made for extreme amounts of bloodshed, not only here in the United States, but throughout the world, generally. Excellent post, jackrt! Your points are well said...and well taken, to boot. Keep up the good work! I don't care what people do prior to taking a cellphone call, whether they're a cashier or another customer ahead of me in line. It still keeps other people waiting unnecessarily, it's nasty, mean, inconsiderate, and rude, to boot. The people who act like this don't give a damn about anybody but themselves. It's beyond disgusting...and it's unacceptable, to boot, no matter what YOU or other people may say or think. Well, this is the best time to talk about gun control. One of the problems is the fact that gun control isn't discussed nearly enough here in the United states. I have a 32-inch television, but nothing beats seeing a good movie, especially one of the great golden oldiei-but-keeper classic films, on a great big, wide screen, in a real movie theatre, with the lights down low, and sharing the whole experience with a bunch of other people whether one knows them or not. Going to a movie theatre to watch a movie entails going to a real community, which is cool. Therein lies the problem, McQualude. People say stuff to others on these forums/message boards that they wouldn't dare say to these same people in real life, lest they get their faces bashed in, or possibly worse. Maybe people should be made to put their name(s), even if they only be nicknames. I've always gone to message board forums, including the (former) imdb.com message board(s) after I've watched movies to discuss them, because watching movies on youtube can be somewhat painful and stifling for me, due to the whole experience being narrowed down to something quite small, which isn't comfortable for me. That's why I prefer to see a film on a great big, wide screen, in a real movie theatre, with the lights down low, when the opportunity comes up. Yet, guys who are bullies in school while growing up don't always straighten up and fly right, either, BiffGG. At least as often as not, they come up to be mean adults, and don't fare that well out in the real world. One guy I knew who was a bully became a severe alcoholic, another ended up a heroin addict who served a jail term for stealing in order to obtain heroin, and another guy ended up with Alzheimer's disease and had to be put in a home, by his two grown children. Some people argue that bullies end up getting theirs eventually, and in all three of the above-mentioned instances, that's been true. hi, Catbookss. Sorry about the loss of your pet, and the sickness of your friend down in Florida. Having a sick friend that you don't know if s/he will live or die is tough. Losing a beloved pet is equally tough. Here's hoping your friend down in Florida has a full and speedy recovery. In either event, my thoughts are with you during these dark and difficult times. I believe that if imdb had assigned any true moderators to their message boards as a means of preventing conversations and discussions from getting so out of control, they wouldn't have felt compelled to shut down their message boards. Having said that, I firmly believe that imdb.com brought about its own demise by making the big mistake of not having moderators on their message boards. That being said, the trick is to put a stop to this kind of "flaming" and/or trolling before it gets to that point, which imdb, sadly, failed to do. Yes, people should be allowed to vent and express, but when venting and expressing crosses over to the point when are absolutely degrading, abasing, abusing, name calling and insulting people whose viewpoints/opinions that they don't agree with, it's way out of bounds...and unacceptable. People also have to realize that with the rights to vent and express oneself, and free speech, generally, comes a responsibility. When it becomes abusive, nasty, insulting, and generally degrading, it's not free speech any longer. One of the big problems with the imdb is the fact that there was so much "flaming" on some of the boards, due to a lack of any real moderators. I wonder if that's part of the reason that the imdb.com message boards were shut down. Sure, I remember life before the Internet. I grew up at a time when the Internet hadn't come into existence--the 1950's and the 1960's. Lots more time was spent playing outside in the good weather, and we played until it got dark outside. There was much more face to face communication, and, when I needed help with a homework assignment, my parents and even my younger sister were there to help me. (I didn't get the best grades in school, but still...) Due to the omnipotence of the NRA and the Gun Lobby, I realize that an all-out ban on guns would not be realistically possible, but guns here in the United States need to be more regulated. One big reason that these mass-shootings have occurred is because guns, especially automatic assault weapons (which definitely should be banned!), are far too accessible here in the United States. Why is it okay for somebody to shoot another person just simply for running his/her mouth off? It's not, as far as I'm concerned, and that's where I have the problem with the idea of people carrying guns everywhere they go. I'd hate to have to worry about somebody turning around and shooting me if I spoke to them about either blocking my view of the screen in the movie theatre, or telling them to turn off their cellphone and stop talking/texting on it, because it's too distracting. To each their own, but, as much as I also liked "Psycho", I felt that many of the movies that came out during the 1960's had much more style, more of a story, more substance, had better and more talented actors and actresses, didn't feel like they were totally recorded, and were far better photographed, as well. Thank you, lennonforever. :) Nope. The best way is for the city or cities to do a better job of snow removal after a heavy snowfall. Then people won't feel the need to do stupid stuff like reserve the space(s) they shoveled out. The sort of "You shovel it, you own it" territorial mentality that goes on in a number of Boston neighborhoods is disgusting.
