I think there's a distinction to be made between miser and astute saver, and it's that a miser lives an unnecessarily uncomfortable and austere life despite having means for that not to be so.
I guess old Bill had reason enough, in his own mind at least, to live that way, but I'd have liked to see him living in a bit more security and comfort at his age (82 at the time of filming).
"Let's go see a musical....make it....Moby. Better yet! Get four tickets. Call that escort place. Get us some dates. Don't want to look conspicuous....
....
Oh, and see if they have a blonde Asian girl."
The face he makes when he delivers that last line cracks me up.
Yeah, this makes a lot more sense. They're supposed to belong to a "loser-freak collective", and it's definitely true that the sort of people they hang around with in the movie either look bizarre or broken down. So maybe wearing old-person masks is just their 'thing'.
If you don't think Hitler walking down the street in a pair of tight green pants is funny, then I don't even know what to say to you.
If you listen to real recordings of Koresh, it's actually that Kitsch doesn't sound redneck enough, rather than too redneck. The real Koresh wasn't quite as articulate.
But I like the portrayal. It's possible that the mannerisms may not be exactly spot-on, but he does act the potential duplicitousness of the character quite well.
I'm sure it was a bit over the top. The actress who played Lisa in the real film noted that people did laugh at the premiere, but I find it hard to imagine it was in an uproarious way.
I can't think, anyway, that it was such a surprise to the cast and crew in attendance, that they'd be laughing their heads off at the revelation that it was a sh**ty movie. They were there for the filming, seen the rushes, read the script etc. I'm sure they'd already done their share of laughing by that point, if they'd done any at all.
That one slightly effeminate brother of Mark's really seemed to have it out for him. What happened between them that the brother said of Mark, "I'd always thought he'd end up plotting someone's death, and some days, I get the feeling it might be mine." I mean, it's pretty common that brothers don't see eye to eye, but that's a next level type of thing to say, if ever I heard it.
What are you talking about? They were clearly making a power play by conducting a little dick-swinging patrol, trying to intimidate local residents. You can hear Cobb on the video having belligerent arguments with people off camera.
