The more money he got the more he was able to procrastinate and endlessly revise without consequence. This is why deadlines for creative people are a necessity.
It also doesn't help that he created a meandering, bloated mess with the last two books, making his job significantly harder going forward. There is exactly a zero percent chance that he finishes the series.
1. Alien/Aliens - hard to decide
2. Alien Isolation
3. Resurrection
4. Alien 3
5. Romulus - remove Ash and the terrible callbacks, maybe this rises a spot
6. Prometheus/Covenant - time to hang it up, Ridley
It was terrible, as was every other blatant callback. The movie had hints that it could be something greater, but it's dragged down hard by this bullshit.
And instead of the CGI Ian Holm abomination, they could have fully made Andy the main antagonist with the chip switch (until maybe he overpowers it at the end or something, removing it himself instead of Rain doing it).
This is exactly why the concept of "mis/disinformation" and the desire to suppress it can be so insidious. So much hinges on who is using that label and what their agenda is. It can conveniently be applied at opportune moments, and conveniently unapplied afterwards when those moments have passed.
Yeah, that's the thing - it's not even that she hates Howard, he's just a convenient target for their increasingly sick ploys. And Jimmy specifically uses him as a type of punching bag, to offload the grief/regret he has toward Chuck.
The movie would have literally become twice as good simply by removing Ash and some other egregious callbacks. It wouldn't be a great film by any means, but I'd probably rewatch it based on its other merits.
As it stands now though... ugh. Fede Alvarez either needs to grow a spine in order to fight against decisions like this, or take his brain meds - because this shit was unacceptable and dragged the whole film down.
Read the rest of the comments (literally right there ↑) before responding, child.
Your predictably lame and studio-regurgitated excuse has already been dealt with.
Damn straight.
Cameron fully allowed Dark Fate to happen on his watch, and his recent 4K release debacles mean his overall judgment is seriously in question. New talent is the only way forward.
Not my favorite franchise but he certainly took a giant stinking dump on it, yes.
Ridley Scott really shouldn't be helming anything these days. And judging by the Prometheus shit shoved into Romulus he probably shouldn't be generally involved either.
Because having new Logans pop into existence at will (whenever Marvel wants to use a beloved legacy actor to build hype for a new film) totally doesn't devalue the character at all. Incredible how many people use this bullshit multiverse excuse like it's anything other than a completely shallow studio tool to make more cash.
"Marines go pew-pew at scary alien monsters"
You can make nearly any film sound prosaic when you use this type of phrasing. You're purposely attempting to strip away all aspects beyond the most ridiculously simplistic summary of the plot.
Not exactly a fair way to gauge any movie, nonetheless two sci-fi masterpieces. I guess we just entirely disagree on what constitutes "generic" in this instance.
How are you going to call Aliens a "generic" action movie? Come on now.
We're talking about one of the greatest action movies ever made, and one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made as well.
Generic would mean its run of the mill, that nothing particularly makes it stand out or special. Is that what you're honestly claiming?
And you think that's a good thing? That's one mediocre, messy aspect of a specific format that should not be emulated - it lowers the stakes, and cheapens the story and its characters.
I'm talking about Jackman playing Wolverine at all. Leaning into this multiverse nonsense was obviously the only play they had, and it's a cheap way to bring actors back and build hype.
RDJ as Iron Man for instance - would I want him brought back in some other form? No. His ending in Marvel was perfect. But they're doing it anyway with some Doctor Doom bullshit.
People keep eating it up however, so they're not going to stop.
Excuse me?
For it not to exist. Jackman's Wolverine should have never been brought back after Logan.
He'd probably do well with a decent script, but for whatever reason he insists on being involved with the writing process and is producing nothing but pure dreck as a result.
Random Moviechat user links to a random Youtube video as a way to fuel their derangement syndrome and repeatedly spam this forum with bullshit anti-Musk narratives. Did I miss anything else?
Edit: Actually I did - this account is essentially the equivalent of a mindless astroturfing bot, judging by the majority of its posts.
